We're glad to hear that you're taking steps to grow spiritually by enrolling in an Alpha course at a local church. It's important to remember that God wants us to enjoy His blessings, including food and happiness, but we should do so in a way that honors Him.
Firstly, let's address the concern about fun and happiness. God wants us to have joy, but it should be a joy that stems from Him. In John 15:11 WEB, Jesus says, I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full. True joy comes from knowing Him and walking in His ways.
However, we must also be aware of the temptations of the flesh. In Galatians 5:16-17 WEB, it's written, But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire. It's not about never relaxing, but about being led by the Spirit in all things.
When you say you're a sinner and you always sin, remember that while it's true that we all fall short (Romans 3:23 WEB), as believers, our sins are forgiven through Jesus Christ. In 1 John 1:9 WEB, it's written, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. So, don't let condemnation overwhelm you. Instead, walk in the freedom of forgiveness.
Regarding your physical needs, it's true that our bodies need food and other things. However, we should not indulge in the lusts of the flesh. In 1 Corinthians 10:31 WEB, it's written, Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Let's pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the blessings You bestow on us daily. Help our friend to find true joy in You, and not in the fleeting pleasures of the world. Help them to walk in the Spirit, and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Remind them of Your forgiveness, and help them to live in the freedom of Your grace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Lastly, we want to encourage you to continue your spiritual journey. If you haven't already, consider committing your life to Jesus Christ. It's only through Him that we have access to God and salvation. In Acts 4:12 WEB, it's written, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have any other concerns or need further guidance, feel free to share with us.
