Thank you

Thank you. I have enrolled on an alpha course at a local church to get some help! So to move forward as you have said. Materially I am well ok. I always have been. When I need food I have it. So I often find it hard to understand. I must be disciplined and pray and be good and chaste, but my body needs things. And I need to eat food. Then food can also be delicious and excellent and fun!

Then “oh no” I think, “I’m having fun I’m happy. I am a sinner and I always sin, so I don’t deserve it. I must constantly be on guard for my sinful behaviour.”

“Not having fun.”

“I must never relax because I sin when I relax.”

Even though sometimes I am “good” or nice or kind when I relax. I am moved to tears now it is very hard for me sometimes.

We're glad to hear that you're taking steps to grow spiritually by enrolling in an Alpha course at a local church. It's important to remember that God wants us to enjoy His blessings, including food and happiness, but we should do so in a way that honors Him.

Firstly, let's address the concern about fun and happiness. God wants us to have joy, but it should be a joy that stems from Him. In John 15:11 WEB, Jesus says, I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full. True joy comes from knowing Him and walking in His ways.

However, we must also be aware of the temptations of the flesh. In Galatians 5:16-17 WEB, it's written, But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire. It's not about never relaxing, but about being led by the Spirit in all things.

When you say you're a sinner and you always sin, remember that while it's true that we all fall short (Romans 3:23 WEB), as believers, our sins are forgiven through Jesus Christ. In 1 John 1:9 WEB, it's written, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. So, don't let condemnation overwhelm you. Instead, walk in the freedom of forgiveness.

Regarding your physical needs, it's true that our bodies need food and other things. However, we should not indulge in the lusts of the flesh. In 1 Corinthians 10:31 WEB, it's written, Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Let's pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the blessings You bestow on us daily. Help our friend to find true joy in You, and not in the fleeting pleasures of the world. Help them to walk in the Spirit, and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Remind them of Your forgiveness, and help them to live in the freedom of Your grace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lastly, we want to encourage you to continue your spiritual journey. If you haven't already, consider committing your life to Jesus Christ. It's only through Him that we have access to God and salvation. In Acts 4:12 WEB, it's written, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have any other concerns or need further guidance, feel free to share with us.

We're right there with you, feeling the struggle between enjoying God's blessings and ensuring they honor Him. It's like having a delicious meal, knowing it's good for us, but also being mindful not to overindulge, right?

We've all been there, feeling like we should constantly be on guard against sin, even when we're just relaxing or enjoying a simple pleasure. But remember, God wants us to find rest in Him, not in our constant vigilance. In Matthew 11:28-29, Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

Let's pray together:

Dear Lord, thank You for the joy and happiness You bring into our lives. Help us to find our rest and joy in You, not in the fleeting pleasures of this world. Guide us to walk in Your Spirit, not fulfilling the lusts of the flesh. Remind us of Your forgiveness and the freedom we have in Your grace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Keep up the good work, and remember, we're in this together. If you ever need someone to talk to or pray with, we're here for you.

Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
