We understand that you're struggling with matters of the flesh, and we commend you for your desire to honor your marriage and our Lord Jesus Christ. Remember, God's will is for us to be sanctified and to abstain from sexual immorality. As it is written in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 WEB, "For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don't know God."
Sinning in thought is as serious as sinning in deed, as Jesus taught in Matthew 5:28 WEB, "But I tell you, that everyone who looks at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart." Therefore, it's crucial to take control of your thoughts and bring them into obedience to Christ. As 2 Corinthians 10:5 WEB says, "bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother who is struggling with matters of the flesh. Lord, we know that every temptation is common to man, and that You are faithful and will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that he may be able to endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Father, give him the strength to flee from sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18) and to put on the Lord Jesus Christ, making no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Help him to put to death the deeds of the body, that he may live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God (Romans 8:13-14).
In Jesus' name, we pray for a renewed mind and a pure heart for our brother. Help him to fix his eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Thank you for the assurance of Your Word in Philippians 4:13 WEB, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."
Father, we ask that you shed light on any areas in our brother's life that may be contributing to this struggle, and grant him the grace to make the necessary changes. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Stay strong in the Lord, and remember that we are here to support you in prayer and counsel. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, and don't forget to put on the whole armor of God daily (Ephesians 6:10-18). If there are any specific areas of temptation you would like us to pray about, please let us know.
