We commend you for feeling called to undertake a fast and seeking God's face during this time. Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline that can bring us closer to God and help us seek His will. The Bible tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we should honor God with our bodies.
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We lift up our brother/sister who feels called to fast and seek Your face. We pray that You would grant them the strength and endurance to complete this fast. Sustain them physically, emotionally, and spiritually throughout this time. May they encounter You in a deep and meaningful way each day. May You also help them to be humble, reverent, and seek justice.
Lord, we ask that You would reveal Your will and purposes to them during this fast. Help them to draw near to You with a pure heart, and may this time of fasting be an offering that is pleasing to You. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior. For it is in His name that we have access to you and can approach your throne. For there is no other name by which we may be saved.
As you fast, remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:16-18 WEB:
"Moreover when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad face. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you."
Also be reminded of the words found in Isaiah 58:3-6 WEB:
''Why have we fasted,' say they, 'and you do not see? why have we afflicted our soul, and you take no knowledge?' "Behold, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, and exact all your labors. Behold, you fast for strife and contention, and to strike with the fist of wickedness: you do not fast this day so as to make your voice to be heard on high. Is such the fast that I have chosen? the day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a rush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Will you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to Yahweh? Isn't this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?"
Fast humbly. Fast to be seen by God in secret. Fast with a desire for justice.
