[To the apostles, Jesus continued,] "You have stayed with me in my time of trial. And just as my Father has granted me a Kingdom, I now grant you the right to eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom. And you will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."
—Luke 22:28-30 NLT
While all of Jesus' apostles did forsake him and run away during his arrest, trial, and crucifixion, [1] they had been true to him to this point in his ministry. He let them know that they would have places of honor in the coming Kingdom. While they may not have known all that would happen in that Kingdom, they did know that they would be in the presence of the LORD, would eat at his table, would reign on thrones, and would judge the twelve tribes of Israel. While their earthly struggles were great and their rewards in this life seemed paltry, Jesus assured them that they would reign with him in glory.
[1] Matthew 26:56.
Father, give me the faith to wait for the dawning of your day of victory. Help me not to give up when I'm discouraged. Keep me passionate as I seek to serve you with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength. In Jesus' name, I praise and thank you. Amen.
