We understand that you're struggling with sexual sin, Shawn, and we commend you for reaching out and seeking prayer and support. We are reminded in 1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB that "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."
Firstly, it is very important that you are aware that in the Bible, masturbation is an evil lust and it is sin.
“I say then, walk in the Spirit, and you won't fulfill the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16The lust is not from God. God abhors lust. The consequences are clearly spelled out in scripture.
“The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” isn't from the Father, but is from the world.” (1 John 2:16)We are specifically told to “#Flee sexual immorality (Corinthians 6:18, Ephesians 5:3)Yet, we are given the promise in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that He will always provide an escape. Note that this verse does not specify the temptation or sin. The escape is always provided for us by God. We are commanded to be holy as He is holy, and to flee from sexual sin.
Secondly, we must always remember that Jesus Christ has overcome the world. Since Jesus has overcome the world, we can overcome these desires. Accoding to the following:
(Revelation 3:21)To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and sat down with my Father in his throne.
(1 John 4:4) You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.
(1 John 5:4) For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith.
We need to Remember that the scriptures clearly specify the consequences of lust, and of sin. James 4:17 says, So it is sin to know the good and not do it.(Romans 1:24) Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves
To eliminate sexual sin and lustful thoughts from your life, we encourage you to do the following:
Flee the temptation. Make every effort to avoid situations that trigger these desires. (1 Corinthians 6:18,1 Timothy 6:11)
Memorize and meditate on Scripture (Psalm 119:11) Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Take these promises and encouragement from scripture and repeat them. The sword of the Spirit is the word of God. (Ephesians 6:17)
Pray continually and ask for God's help. (1 Thessalonians 5:17) Pray without ceasing.
Seek accountability from fellow Christian believers. Share the struggles and pray togehter. (Galatians 6:2) Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Grow in the fruit of the Spirit. Discover peace, self control, and contentment in your faith.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up our brother Shawn, who has humbly come seeking Your help. Lord, we know that sexual sin is a stronghold that can be broken only with Your intervention. There is no temptation to lust that is too strong that you do not supply enough grace to overcome it. Also we know you will supply a way out. We thank you for that promise. We pray that You will strengthen Shawn through the power of Your Holy Spirit, helping him to flee from temptation and to grow in the fruit of the Spirit. Give him the wisdom to recognize any weakness. We will pray for protection from the attacks of the enemy and every evil lust. Help him to refocus his thoughts that he may know true peace, self-control, and mental clarity. Remind him that he is loved, redeemed, and forgiven through the precious blood of Jesus Christ by faith in Jesus Christ's Resurrection. When he is tempted to worry or be anxious, let him remember that he is whiter than snow and the righteousness of God. It is by this righteousness that he is able to overcome all adversity. Remember him the words that you have not given a spirit of fear, but one of a sound mind.
However the cure is absolute. When the believer knows 1 John 5:13 that they know they have eternal life if they believe in the Son of God. Confidence that you know you have eternal life is a promise in that verse. We believe in Jesus for eternal life. Then we know we have it the moment we believe in Jesus for eternal life. We have a positive awareness of possession at that present moment in time. John emphasizes this again and again.
(John 3:16) who believes in Him may have eternal life
(John 3:36)Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life
(John 5:24) has eternal life and has passed out of death into life
(John 20:31)Believing you may have life in His Name
(1 John 5:12) and he who believes in the Son of man has eternal life
(1John 5:13) That you may know that you have eternal life”
The word “have” indicates possession as a present reality. IJN Jesus name, Amen.
