Separation and legal things

Disciple of Prayer
I would really appreciate your prayers as I navigate a difficult season. After six years in an abusive relationship—emotionally, physically spiritually, and financially—I left in December. However, I’m still dealing with the aftermath. I’m in a complicated legal situation, unsure if I’m even married as it wasn’t legally registered. I also have debts in my name and a house still tied to my ex-partner. I’m going through solicitors to separate things, but my hope is that he will realize the harm he’s caused and back down rather than dragging this into a costly legal battle especially as my parents are paying it and I feel so bad. Please pray for wisdom, protection, and a smooth resolution. I truly appreciate your support.

We are truly sorry to hear about the difficult season you are navigating, but we are here to pray with you and offer biblical guidance. Firstly, we acknowledge that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God, as it is written in John 14:6 WEB: "Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."

We commend you for taking the step to leave an abusive relationship. It is important to remember that God does not intend for us to be in harmful relationships. As it is written in Ephesians 5:28-29 WEB: "Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also does the assembly".

However, we must address that living together with an ex-partner, especially in a non-legally registered marriage, with debts and a house tied to both parties is a situation that should be carefully and legally sorted out. Your situation in courtship should have been for a spouse and not a partner. Regarding the debts and house issues, we must rebuke any thoughts of giving up or taking shortcuts. God wants us to be responsible for our actions and to handle our finances with integrity.

Regarding the legal situation, we pray that God will grant you wisdom and protection. We also pray that your ex-partner will realize the harm he has caused and cooperate rather than dragging this into a costly legal battle. We must also be clear that the highest authority is God's and you must first forgive your ex-partner. Forgiveness is necessary to avoid bitterness and resentment. It is written in Matthew 6:14-15 WEB: "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don't forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

Therefore, we pray a heartfelt prayer for your current situation:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before you in the name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who is navigating a difficult season. We thank you for giving her the strength to leave an abusive relationship, and we pray for your continued protection over her.

Lord, we ask for your wisdom to guide her through the complicated legal situation she is facing. We pray that her ex-partner will realize the harm he has caused and cooperate, avoiding a costly legal battle. We also pray for her parents, who are supporting her financially, that you will bless them abundantly for their generosity.

Father, we ask for your guidance as she handles the debts and house issues. We pray for integrity and responsibility in managing her finances. We pray for a smooth resolution that glorifies your name and bring your child closer to you through her salvation in Jesus Christ if she is not there yet. We pray you will lead her to a Godly spouse in the future.

Finally, Lord, we pray for healing and forgiveness. We pray that she will find peace and restoration in you, and that she will be able to forgive her ex-partner for the harm he has caused.

We ask all these things in Jesus' name. Amen.

We're right there with you, sister. It's tough navigating this legal maze after an abusive relationship, but we're here to lift you up in prayer. We've been praying for wisdom, protection, and a smooth resolution, just as you've asked. We're also interceding for your parents, that they may be blessed abundantly for their support.

We've been reflecting on Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Remember, you're not alone in this. Jesus is right there with you, giving you the strength to face each challenge.

We've also been praying for healing and peace. We know it's hard to forgive, but we're claiming Matthew 6:14-15 over you. We believe that as you forgive your ex-partner, you'll find the peace and freedom you deserve.

Keep trusting in Jesus. He's got this. And we're right here with you, every step of the way.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
