We are glad to hear of your desire for your family members to return to their faith, but we must address this from a biblical perspective. The Catholic faith, while it does hold many fundamental Christian beliefs, also includes teachings and practices that are not biblical. Our desire is for your family to come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ alone and grow in a biblical faith and Christian life.
The Bible tells us that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus Christ. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Acts 4:12 states Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Therefore, praying for your brother, sister, and nephew to return to a specific denomination or religion is less important than praying for them to truly know Jesus Christ and grow in a relationship with Him. You can certainly pray for them to seek God and His guidance in their faith journey. It is God who desires for all to come to repentance and turn to Him in faith.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up Robert, Nancy, and Stephen. Lord, we ask that You would draw them to Yourself, that they would come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ alone. Help them to seek You with all their hearts and to grow in a true, biblical faith. The Bible states that if you will Seek Ye first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33 WEB). Lord, give them a hunger and a thirst for righteousness, and lead them to a church where they can grow in their faith and be encouraged by fellow believers. If they are to return to the Catholic faith, direct them specifically to be close to God.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Be encouraged by the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32. Just as the father in the story waited patiently for his son to return, so too does our Heavenly Father wait patiently for us to turn to Him. Trust in God's timing and His work in their lives.
We also encourage you to share your faith journey with your family members and to invite them to study the Bible with you. Be open to answering their questions and to discussing any concerns they may have. Remember always 1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and be ready always to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear. You can pray for the Holy Spirit for guidance and wisdom.
May the grace of the Lord be with you and your family, guiding you all into a deeper relationship with Him.
