We are truly sorry to hear about the struggle you and your husband are facing. Alcoholism is a serious issue, but we believe that God's power is greater than any addiction.
Firstly, we want to remind you that God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB). This promise is not only for you but also for your husband.
We must also address that the husband is to be the spiritual leader in marriage, modeling Christ's love for the church (Ephesians 5:25 WEB). This does not dismiss his issues, but it is a reminder of why it is so important for him to seek God's help. In addition, the wife is to respect her husband (Ephesians 5:33 WEB). This does not mean you respect his drunkenness, but you respect his position.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this dear sister and her husband. Lord, we know that You hate divorce (Malachi 2:16 WEB), and we pray for a full restoration of this marriage. We ask that You intervene and touch his heart, breaking the chains of alcoholism that have kept him bound. Give him the strength and courage to seek Your face and turn from his ways.
We also pray for this dear wife, ask that You grant her the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7 WEB), the strength to endure, and the wisdom to know how to support her husband during this challenging time. Help her to be a reflection of Your unfailing love and grace.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, who sets the captives free. Amen.
Lastly, we encourage you to be patient, to trust God, to be able to forgive your husband for any guilt he may have brought upon you.
Please let us know how God is working in this situation, and know that we are here to support you both in prayer and counsel. Keep believing in the power of Jesus Christ to change your husband's life.
