Let's bring your concerns to God, knowing that He desires honor and respect within families. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:2, Honor your Father and Mother, which is the first commandment with a promise. God is clear about the importance of mutual respect between parents and children.
However, it is also important to note that this commandment does not give parents the authority to belittle or disrespect their children. In Leviticus 19:3, God says, Every one of you shall respect his mother and his father.
This verse emphasizes the importance of mutual respect in the family. It is clear that God wants us to treat each other with value and honor.
It is concerning that your mother is trying to minimize or discredit you. Unfortunately, this is not the way God has called us to treat one another. In Colossians 3:12-14, God says,
Put on therefore, as Gods chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you should do of love, and of peace.
Therefore, lets pray for God's will in your relationship with your mother.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this precious child of Yours. We pray for their relationship with their mother, asking that You would bring healing and restoration. Help them to show respect to her, even in moments of disagreement. We pray for their relationship to be loving and practicing mutual love, respect, and honor in both sides.
Father, we also pray for the mother. We pray that You would soften her heart and help her to see the value and worth of her child. We ask that You would convict her if she is treating them poorly, minimizing their feelings, or discrediting their experiences. Help her to see and respect the mandate for mutual respect.
If there is a need for forgiveness, we ask You to work in each of their hearts, giving them the strength and humility to ask for and extend forgiveness. We ask they be forgiven for anything offensive they have done to each other. We pray that both maintain a heart of compassion, tenderness, humility, patience, and forgiveness.
Father, we ask that You would bring unity and love to this relationship. We pray that both would seek to honor You in their actions and words and always remember that the relationship with the other person matters to them and God, even if there is conflict. If there is anything displeasing to them that You have given us Wisdom to address, please give us the words to say it and give them a heart that listens and respects Your commands. If at any time there is a word of blessing or kindness or encouragement, give the mother those words to encourage her child. We pray through all this will be will?
Finally, we trust in Your promises, like the one in Matthew 18:19-20. We pray for both parties. We declare this relationship is mended per the direction and Will of the Holy Spirit.
Again truly I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them by my Father who is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the middle of them.
We trust You to work all things together for good, even in difficult family situations.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
