Researching Hearing God's Voice

This has been a bit of a rabbit trail for me. So far it seems that people who think they hear God's voice, is having something just pop into their head. I'm not sure if it is their own random thoughts or if it really is the voice of the Holy Spirit. Personally I have had to deal with a voice in my head, and it wasn't kind to me. It often times tried to disrupt my life in odd sorts of ways. Yes some of the threats it made came true. It didn't seem to come from God because it never lead me into light. Since I've been born again believer since the age of 6. I have always wondered what is wrong here? My research has told me that people with OCD or even ADHD can have intrusive thoughts. Over the many years those thoughts that came at me like a voice, had become less and less. What some Christians believe is that the number one way God speaks to us is through the word. The Bible. The Bible can be the most trusted source. I think my main problem now is, I don't know what God's purpose is for me. I want to serve him and I wonder if my job of cleaning toilets for a school, really serves him or not. I've been kinda stuck in this job, and the way it isolates me from others for 22 years. Please pray that God will give me clear direction and peace.

Goghysk, let us first assure you that you are not alone in your quest to discern God's voice and understand His purpose for your life. The issue of hearing God's voice is a important one, and it's crucial to align our understanding with biblical principles.

Firstly, God speaks to us primarily through His Word, the Bible. As you mentioned, this is the most trusted source. Jesus I promised the Holy Spirit and said He would guide us into all things and would only speak what He hears Jesus. Jesus says the Holy Spirit will guide will testify of Himself, glorify Him, take what is His and declare it to us.
The WEB says,
John 16:13 However, when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming.
14 He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine, and will declare it to you.
15 All things whatever the Father has are mine; therefore I said that he takes of mine, and will declare it to you.

It is important to test the spirits to see if they are from God.
1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many IJC false prophets have gone out into the world.

Intrusive thoughts can indeed be a sign of various psychological conditions, but they can also be spiritual attacks. It's important to remember that Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light, and his voices or influence will never lead us into truth or peace. If the thoughts are not aligned with God's Word they are not from Him.
BOOK 2 Corinthians 11:14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

God's purpose for you is to conform you to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. He has gifted you uniquely to serve Him, and no work is insignificant if it is done with a heart to serve the Lord. Cleaning toilets at a school can be Godly just as surely as a pastor leading someone to faith.
1 Corinthians 1:24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God
26 For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble;
27 but God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong;
28 and God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing the things that are:
29 that no flesh should boast before God.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 7:20 Let each man stay in that calling in which he was called.
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men,

It is wonderful that you want to serve Him, and we pray that God will reveal His specific purpose for you in His timing.

Father, thank you for Goghysk seeking your voice only through Jesus. We ask that You give them clear direction and peace. Help them to discern Your voice from the noise of the world and the enemy's lies. Guide them into the purpose You have for them, and help them to find contentment and joy in serving You in their current job. Give them wisdom and strength to testify of your grace you have led them through. Bless their work and openings for new positions as You see best as you lead into more fulfillment of your plan. Remove the spirit of doubt, fear, and anxiety that could try to lead them astray. Replace it with faith, confidence, and hopefulness in your love. We pray this all in Jesus name. The only way to God.

Finally, if you were not already aware, it is only by the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God the father. So, if you have not already accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. If you have not asked His pardon for your sins. If you have not pledged your life to His lordship, guidance, and direction; then acknowledge no, pray to Him for forgiveness and to lead your life.
1 John 2:22-23 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.
Acts 4:12 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"

Praying for you in Jesus. We are all idiots! Why don’t we realize that we all work for Jesus whether we realize this or not? I don’t understand why anyone who cleans a toilet can’t just sing praises or think and speak praises to Jesus while cleaning anything and just for what Jesus already did at the cross?

Do you Believe Jesus died for our sins, is Risen from the dead, is Preparing a place for us and is about to call us to join Him?

There is nothing that happens for us that is bad. All things work for our good in Jesus! Look at everything as good!

I wanted to commit suicide once, I even came up with a plan. Right before I headed out the door I posted a prayer on here and hoping there might be help from God one last time I opened the Bible and only read take no thought for your life. I read that before at least 100 times but never really could understand how. This time I took it to heart, all right God I will end my life by not thinking about it. I take no thought, I take no thought, I take no thought over and over and over again I take no thought was my only thought that day. All of a sudden I noticed something, Jesus showed up, all my pains were gone, no neck ache, no back pain, no leg pain from many many accidents I had over the years and no pain in my heart as my wife had left me. I started singing praises and thanks to Jesus and my life has never been the same. It is our obedience to God from His Holy Instructions that makes a difference to His Power of His Promises in our lives.

Be a doer of Jesus friend, it really makes a difference! Thank You Lord Jesus!

Search the Bible for Jesus' Promises friend, do them and claim them in Jesus! Amen! Thank You Lord Jesus!

Powerful healing promise hidden in Proverbs 3:7-8, I am not wise in my own eyes, I fear You Lord, I depart from evil, especially my own evil thoughts and my flesh is healed and my body is refreshed in Jesus.

Praying for others especially in your situation will help you tremendously in yours friend.

Take no thought for your life dear friend and Jesus will take thought for you. Sing praises and thanks to Jesus and He will overflow His Holy Spirit in you and so much more. He will fight for you and give you the desires of your heart.

God bless me to live and walk in Your love, mercy and forgiveness (Isaiah 55:7). I confess, I will take no thought for my life. I will trust You Father God to take thought for me and take care of me (Mathew 6:25-34). I will not be wise in my own eyes, I will fear You Lord and depart from evil and my flesh will be healed and my body will be refreshed (Proverbs 3:7-8) daily. Thank You Jesus for Your Promises! Lord make me the Child of God You need me to be in Christ for all those around me and for the world to see (Psalms 128:3). Not by my might, nor by my power, but by Your Spirt Christ Jesus (Zechariah 4:6) this shall happen. And it will happen, it is happening now in Your timing, Power, Strength, Might, and Spirit, Christ Jesus. God all that I have asked of you in this prayer please do the same for all those I love, care about, and every faithful prayer warrior on this site. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You Lord Jesus, my Savior and Lord for answering this prayer with a Yes and Amen.
