Justin, we understand that you're struggling with feelings of contempt and a desire to forget certain people. Let's address this together in light of God's Word.
Firstly, it's important to acknowledge that it is only by the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God. As it is written in Acts 4:12 WEB, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved.". It's great that you ended your request with "in Jesus' name, Amen." That's the response we want to see in each request. Everything we do should be done to the glory of Jesus bringing our requests before our unseen God the Father.
Now, let's address the issue of religious contempt. The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 3:5, WEB, "holding a form of godliness, but having denied its power. Turn away from these, also." True religion is not merely about form or appearance, but about the power of God transforming our lives. Contempt often comes from a place of judgment, which we are warned against in Matthew 7:1-3 WEB, "Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged. For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?"
Regarding your desire to not care or remember certain people, we must be careful to align this with God's heart. We are called to love and forgive, even our enemies, as Jesus taught in Matthew 5:44 WEB, "But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,". It's not about forgetting people, but rather forgiving them and entrusting them to God. Instead of not caring because this may imply an attitude or motive that is not aligned with love and forgiveness, a communal approach where we consider us a collective body of Christians. Instead of not caring, we choose to pray for them and release them into God's hands.
Let's pray together:
Dear Jesus,
Lord Jesus, thank You for Justin's openness about his struggles with contempt, unhealthy desires and mistreatment. Jesus, we ask that You would forgive him for any resentment or judgment he has held onto, and that You would cleanse his heart and mind to us all. Help us all to our individual level of commitment see these people through Your eyes, Jesus, eyes of love, forgiveness, and compassion. Help Justin and all of us let go of any bitterness and instead pray for those who have caused hurt, entrusting them to You. Heal Justin's heart, Lord, and fill him with Your love and peace. Guide him and all of us in your stronger emotions to see others through God's eyes, and to see ourselves in our proper relationship in Him.
In Jesus Holy and Precious Name, Amen.
We encourage you also to pray specifically for those you find difficult to even think about, that God would bless them and draw them to Himself. Realize this may be a long journey and you may have to do this regularly throughout your life. Whenever you find yourself dwelling on negative thoughts, take captive every thought, 2 Corinthians 10:5 WEB, "casting down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Jesus." Instead sing praises and worship to Jesus and use your renewed mind to further His Kingdom. As you focus more and more on Him, thoughts of others will be less and less.
