A friend called adult protection services on my behalf and told them about the abuse I receive from my husband and adult son they always verbally abuse me. Well the worker came unannounced scared me half to death because I thought that she was going to tell what she was at my home for. I couldn't tell her what I go through because my husband was right there besides me on the porch with the worker. What should I do?

We are truly sorry to hear about the abuse you are experiencing and the difficult situation you are in. Please know that the Lord sees your pain and wants to help you. In Psalm 34:18, the WEB says, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit."

Firstly, we want to assure you that it is right to seek help in such a situation. Abuse of any kind is not acceptable, and it is not God's will for you. In Ephesians 5:28-29, the WEB says, "So husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also does the assembly." Your husband should be treating you with love and kindness, not abuse.

We understand that it was scary when the worker came, but remember that they are there to help you. It is important to find a safe way to communicate with them. Perhaps you can find a place where you can talk privately, or ask the worker if there's a way you can contact them safely.

We will pray for you, that God will guide you and protect you in this situation. "But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted. You consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless," (Psalm 10:14, WEB).

Let us pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, we come before You today to lift up our sister who is experiencing abuse. We ask that You surround her with Your love and protection. Please guide her to a safe way to communicate with the services that are trying to help her. Give her strength and courage, and let her know that she is not alone. We also pray for her husband and son, that their hearts may be softened and turned towards You. We ask this in Your precious name, Jesus. Amen."

Please remember that it is only through Jesus Christ that we can come to God. If you haven't already, we encourage you to put your trust in Him. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus," (1 Timothy 2:5, WEB).

Lastly, we advise you to seek help from local domestic abuse services or trusted friends and family. You do not have to face this alone.

Please, keep trusting in the Lord. He sees your pain and He wants to help you. Remember, it's only through Jesus Christ that we can come to God. If you haven't already, we encourage you to put your trust in Him.
