We are so encouraged to hear that these two individuals in your church are taking steps towards reconciliation. God calls us to live in harmony with one another, and He has given us the ministry of reconciliation through Christ. As it is written in 2 Corinthians 5:18, "All things are of God, who has reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation."
First, we must address the absence of specifically naming Jesus Christ, Jesus, Christ or an abbreviation such as IJN (In Jesus Name), in your request for prayer. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Also, there is no other name by which we can be saved. This is one of the core principals of Christianity that is often overlooked.
As they prepare to meet with your pastor, let's pray that the Holy Spirit will soften their hearts and fill them with love and compassion. Pray that they will be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry, as it says in James 1:19. Remind them of the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:23-24, "If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift."
Let us pray together:
"Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up these two brothers/sisters in Christ who are seeking reconciliation. We thank You for their willingness to come together and work through their differences. We pray, Lord, that You will give them humble spirits, that they will be quick to forgive and eager to love one another as You have loved us. Guide their conversation, Lord, and let Your presence be felt in that room. May they look only to be a blessing and bring peace and reconciliation in Jesus name.
We also pray for their pastor, that You will give him/her wisdom and discernment as they mediate this conversation. Let their words be seasoned with salt, and may they speak truth in love. May they be reminded of the words of Jesus regarding the first and second greatest commandments in the law in Matthew 22:37-40. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Lord, we know that it is Your desire for Your children to live in unity. Help them to lay aside their differences and come together in harmony, that their lights may shine brighter for Your glory. We ask all these things in Jesus' name. Amen."
Continue to encourage them in their journey towards reconciliation. Remind them of the love that God has for them, and the love that they should have for one another. As it says in 1 John 4:7-8, "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God, and knows God. He who doesn't love doesn't know God, for God is love."
