We are truly sorry to hear about the pain and hurt you are experiencing after the breakdown of your engagement. We will be praying for you and your former fiancé, that the Lord Jesus Christ would heal your hearts and guide you both according to His will.
Firstly, we want to remind you of the promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14 (WEB): "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." This verse assures us that God listens when we humble ourselves, pray, and repent.
In regards to reconciliation, we must remember that true unity comes from being united in Christ. In 1 Corinthians 1:10 (WEB), the Apostle Paul says: "Now I beg you, brothers, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment." Reconciliation should be sought with the intention of glorifying God and living according to His Word.
However, it is crucial to ensure that any reconciliation aligns with biblical principles. If the engagement broke off due to unrepented sin or fundamental incompatibilities, it may not be God's will for the two of you to reunite romantically. Remember, God's desire is for us to be holy, as He is holy 2 Peter 1:16 (WEB), because the Lord your God is a holy God among you, and He will not allow you to worship other gods. You shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. God has called us to live in purity and holiness, fleeing from sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6:18 (WEB) and all other forms of sin.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up your children, the one who submitted this request and their former fiancé. We ask, Lord, that You would heal their hearts and mend their brokenness. We pray that You would reveal Your will for their lives and guide them according to Your purposes.
If it is Your will, Lord, that they reconcile and reunite, we pray that You would make it abundantly clear to both of them. We ask that You would give them the strength and wisdom to navigate this difficult time and that You would be glorified in and through their relationship. Please forgive them of any sins they may have committed, against each other and against you.
If it is not Your will for them to reunite, Father, we ask that You would make that clear as well. We pray that You would give them the grace to accept Your will and the strength to move forward. We ask that You would bring godly spouses into their lives, in Your timing, that they may experience the blessings of a marriage that honors and glorifies You.
We also pray for the one who submitted this request, that You would comfort them and give them peace during this time of heartache. We ask that You would draw them closer to You, Lord, and that they would find their identity and worth in You alone.
Finally, we pray that you would give them guidance on how to pray and seek your face together.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
If they have not committed to each other in a marriage covenant before God, we urge them to consider the important step of marriage seriously. Marriage was intended by God to be a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, a reflection of Christ's love for His church, Ephesians 5:32 (WEB).
We encourage both of them to seek the Lord wholeheartedly, to pray together, and to allow God to lead them in His perfect will. We exhort them to remember to pray together and commune with each other in the name of Jesus Christ. It is only by the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God. There is no other name by which we can be saved, Acts 4:12 (WEB).
