We understand your struggle with repentance and the feeling that your past attempts have not been sincere. True repentance is more than just feeling sorry for our sins; it involves a genuine change of heart and a turning away from our old ways. The Bible tells us in Acts 3:19 WEB, "Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord."
First, let's address the belief that all your sins have been forgiven. In Acts 10:43 WEB, it is written, "All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins." This promise is for those who believe in Jesus Christ. If you have not already, ensure that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, for it is only through His name that we can be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB).
Regarding willful sins, it's crucial to understand that God's grace is not a license to continue sinning. Romans 6:1-2 WEB says, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? May it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer?" If you have been holding onto willful sins, it's time to let them go and truly turn away from them.
Praying to not be a reprobate shows your desire for a genuine change. In 2 Timothy 3:1-5 WEB, Paul tells about a people who have a form of godliness but denying the power of it. He says to turn away from such people. Reprobate people mentioned in this chapter have the appearance of godliness but deny its power. They are disapproved by God because of their unbelief. It is important to not be like these people. Turn away from these tendencies and trust in the power of God to change you, for with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26 WEB) for those who believe.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this person who desires true repentance. Lord, help them to fully believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and trust in Your promise of forgiveness. Give them the strength to let go of willful sins and turn away from their old ways. Help them to not just feel sorry, but to have a genuine change of heart that desires to live in obedience to You.
In Jesus' name, we pray for a refreshing from Your presence and a renewed spirit. Help them to trust in Your power to change them and to live a life that honors You.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
