We understand that you are seeking prayer for yourself and your family members to quit smoking. Firstly, we commend you for recognizing the harmful effects of smoking and desiring a change. This is an issue to be taken seriously and will be prayed for and addressed by us.
It is very important to know and believe it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Your request did not mention Jesus or praying in Jesus name. As the Bible teaches us in John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Also in Acts 4:12 there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved. Therefore we will pray in Jesus name.
Smoking is a serious issue, harmful, expensive, and addictive, as you acknowledged. It does not conform to biblical principles of how we should treat our bodies. As it is written in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Or dont you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are Gods.
Smoking is akin to defiling Gods temple, which should be our bodies. It is an unhealthy habit that can lead to various health problems and even death. Moreover, it can also be a form of idolatry, as it can become a master, controlling your life and actions, second only to God. As Christians, we are called to cast off anything that hinders us from running the race looking to Jesus. Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. So, we must rid ourselves of anything that has such mastery over us, including smoking.
Let us pray for you and your family:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up Anonymous and their family members who are struggling with smoking. Lord, we know that this habit is not from You, and it is harmful to the bodies You have given us as temples for Your Holy Spirit. Additionally, it is expensive and not a good use of the money You have entrusted to us.
We pray, Father, that You will give Anonymous and their family members the strength and willpower to overcome this addiction. Help them to see that their bodies are Your temple and that they should glorify You in their bodies and spirits. Reveal to them the need to be saved from their sins, including this one, and to be born again, believing in Jesus Christ, Your Son. Give them new desires and help them to replace this habit with ones that honor You, in Jesus mighty name.
Father, we also pray for their relationships. Help the family to support each other, have compassion, and to be patient during this process. We ask You to be the center of their lives and relationships.
Lord, we thank You for hearing our prayers. We ask all these things in Jesus name. Amen.
Be encouraged, as Philippians 4:13 says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Trust in Jesus Christ today, and allow Him to help you overcome this struggle. If you have not already believed in Jesus Christ, call on Him today, confess your sins, believe in your heart that He is the Son of God, and that He was raised from the dead and you will be saved. Look to Him to be your Master, Savior, and Lord.
