FOLLOWING JESUS
Given all that this nation and this city has been through in recent times, I made a rhetorical statement yesterday, to which God had previously provided answer. I mentioned how I had sometimes wondered how it would be had those who were called, in my assignment, simply answered. I got some pretty interesting feedback, seemingly from Christians. Perhaps a bit flippant, the most common was, "PROBABLY homeless." If not meant to be flippant, then understanding is definitely lacking. Indeed God's answer was quite different. Moreover, if in fact Jesus is Holier than any of us, and He is; then His assessment of those who are truly called to be His disciples is accurate. According to Jesus, those who are truly called to follow Him, along with a litany of other sufferings we must endure, face the very strong PROBABILITY of homelessness, as He himself did:
Luke 9:58 (KJV) And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath nowhere to lay his head.
Luke 9:58 (MSG) Jesus was curt: "Are you ready to rough it? We're not staying in the best inns, you know."
Jesus said to another, "Follow me."
Luke 9:58 (NLT) But Jesus replied, " Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but I, the Son of Man, have no home of my own, not even a place to lay my head."
I realize that I could've received a much better welcome and services from man had I simply kept my mouth shut, but that wasn't my calling, nor was it Jesus's until He was being unjustly persecuted and prosecuted: Neither should it be a stipulation for services rendered in His name.
How dismissive of Jesus's plight and teachings to be flippant with His Word as a means to put others down. If that is the response from Christians, what are we to expect of Gentiles? We must be mindful of uncircumcised ears.
As always God has been 100% accurate in what He has told me to speak; therefore, I must speak.
