As you may have noticed, there have been some additional privacy enhancements in the last couple of days.
The following is a brief summary of them:
1. Birthday information will no longer be able to be entered or shown. All existing birthdays entered have been erased.
2. Our SSL Security Encryption is now verified every few minutes to check that the fingerprint of the certificate matches ours. This information is displayed by clicking the lock in the top right of every page so anyone can check it. This is necessary because of recent news that agencies may be using this type of attack (Man in the Middle) to get around web security.
3. An anonymous posting function has been added. This allows any member to post as the user called Anonymous instead of their account. The administrator can still tell which member posted if needed to spot check normal operation, or to stop abuse or spam, but it is not otherwise looked at.
4. Country information about each member will no longer be able to be entered or shown. All existing country information has been erased.
5. The private chat bar has returned. However, it will only be between friends you have approved. The main reason for this was to enable live notifications when events occur on the site since email is no longer being used. Private chat communication uses encryption as does the rest of the site. These logs are purged every 4 days for read messages, 7 days for unread messages. The administrator view private chat if needed either in response to a complain or to spot check normal operation.
6. Member avatars are no longer displayed to guests or search engines. Only people who are logged in can see them.
7. Invisible option. Members can now login as invisible by checking the invisible box option when logging in. There is also a Toggle Visibility Option at the top right of every page. This option means they will not show up in the online user list or group chat. Private chat may be turned off separately using the settings button on the bottom right.
8. Modifications were made to prevent people who are not logged in from seeing member profile wall messages as well as the online user list.
9. Friend requests will need to be approved by the other person before they are added. Previously they defaulted to be added automatically.
That's about it for now. That should tighten things up a bit.
