Praying for Reconciliation and Healing

Disciple of Prayer
Hello my Christian friends,

I come to you again asking for your prayer support as I lift my request to our Heavenly Father. I’m praying for healing and reconciliation with my ex-girlfriend. I ask for your prayers that God would remove the two women who have become stumbling blocks in our relationship: one, a friend who has interfered over the years, and the other, a woman I had an affair with—one of the reasons we’re now apart.

I take full accountability for my actions. Since then, I’ve been attending counseling to address trauma from my past, including sexual abuse, and I’ve been actively involved in my local church and the Alpha program. I also recently completed anger management. I’m doing everything I can to grow and become a better man.

My ex-girlfriend and I were together for seven and a half years, and I know in my heart that she is the one for me. I love her deeply and always intended to marry her in the Catholic Church—we’re both Roman Catholic. Last August, I bought her a beautiful 1.5 carat diamond engagement ring.

Her daughters have also been a big part of my life. Her 14-year-old daughter has quit school and hasn’t attended her first year of high school, essentially failing Grade 9. Despite that, she still reaches out to me. I’ve taken her out to eat, driven her to see friends, and picked her up. I’ve supported both her daughters and even helped care for her granddaughter. I’ve continued to support ### as well—bringing food and supplies to her door. She doesn’t open the door, but I know she takes what I leave, and that small connection means a lot.

I understand she’s hurt, angry, and carrying a lot of pain. I know I’ve caused some of that, and I truly regret it from the bottom of my heart. But I’m here for the long haul, ready to do the work to heal, to rebuild trust, and to reconcile. I just ask for your prayers—for wisdom, strength, and most of all, for God’s hand in restoring what was broken, if it is His will.

Thank you for standing in faith and prayer with me.

We are glad you have reached out for prayer and support, and we commend you for taking responsibility for your actions and seeking help through counseling and your local church. It is important to remember that God's will is paramount in all situations, and our prayers should always be aligned with His Word.

Firstly, we need to address a few things that are not aligned with biblical principles. You mentioned that you had an affair with another woman you did not marry, which is a sin against God (Exodus 20:14). You are right to take full responsibility. You also spoke about your intentions to marry your ex-girlfriend in the Catholic Church. We want to remind you that it is only marriage between a man and a woman that is aligned with God's will. It also should not be a goal to marry a non-believer. (1 Corinthians 7:39 A wife is bound by law as long as her husband lives; but if her husband is dead, she is free to be married to whom she desires, only in the Lord.) Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him. 2 Corinthians 6:14 Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

Additionally, you mentioned that you bought her a diamond engagement ring. While this is a beautiful gesture, it is important to remember that material possessions should not be the basis for reconciliation or a relationship with anyone.

God's Word also teaches us that we should not be involved in unequally yoked relationships (2 Corinthians 6:14). As believers, we should seek to be with those who share our faith and values. You mentioned that you are both Roman Catholic. While we acknowledge the genuine faith of many Catholics, it is essential to recognize that the Catholic Church teaches traditions and doctrines that are not biblical. This includes things such as infant baptism not believer baptism, prayer to Mary and other non-living saints, and the worship of the Pope and other leaders of the Church. This is idolatry. We urge you to seek a biblical church that adheres to the teachings of the Bible alone.

We also want to emphasize that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God (John 14:6). We should only pray to God in Jesus' name. It is important to acknowledge Jesus Christ in our prayers and in our lives. You mentioned that you were involved in the Alpha program. While this program can be helpful, it is important to ensure that any program or teaching aligns with the biblical Gospel.

Now, let us pray together for God's will.

Heavenly Father,

We come before You, lifting up our brother in Christ. We pray for healing and reconciliation in this situation, but we want all reconciliation to be based on Your Spirit and not on the desires of our flesh. We ask that You remove any stumbling blocks in the way of true repentance, healing, and restoration of broken relationships, including the women who have interfered in these relationships. We pray for Your will to be done and for wisdom to be given to our brother to act as a man of God and not to be the servants of sin. The brokenness of the past is an opportunity to be obedient to Your Word. For our brother, we pray that You continue to work in his heart, helping him to grow and become more like Christ that he can seek a Godly spouse and have a Godly marriage.

Lord, we also lift up the ex-girlfriend and her daughters. We pray that You would draw them to Yourself and that they would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ if they have not already and if they have already know Jesus then we ask that they will be able to accept Your forgiveness and healing. We pray for wisdom and guidance for parenting and for the 14-year-old daughter, that she would return to school and find the help and support she needs.

We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We're standing with you, brother, as you seek reconciliation and healing. We admire your commitment to taking responsibility for your actions and seeking help through counseling and your local church. Let's keep our focus on God's will in this situation.

We want to encourage you to keep pursuing your ex-girlfriend and her daughters with love and patience. Remember, God's timing is perfect, and His ways are not always our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). Keep being there for them, supporting them as best you can, and trust that God will use your actions to bring about His will.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today, lifting up our brother and his situation. We pray for healing and reconciliation, but most importantly, we pray for Your will to be done. Help him to continue growing and becoming more like Christ, so that he can be a light in their lives.

We also pray for his ex-girlfriend and her daughters. Draw them to Yourself, Lord. If they don't know Jesus, we pray that they would come to a saving knowledge of Him. If they do, help them to accept Your forgiveness and healing. Give them wisdom and guidance, especially for the 14-year-old daughter, that she may return to school and find the help and support she needs.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
