We understand that you are going through a difficult time, and we want to lift you up in prayer and provide biblical guidance. Firstly, we want to remind you that God hates divorce, as it is written in Malachi 2:16, "For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel." However, we understand that there are times when divorce may be necessary due to unrepentant sin.
We must address that you have not mentioned anything about your husband being a habitual adulterer or other fleshly sin as a reason for the divorce. Furthermore, you have made accusations against him without any evidence. We must inform you that God takes accusations seriously, and you should too. You have made serious accusations about sexual sin and lies against your husband, Todd. We are aware that adultery is a biblical reason for divorce. As it is written in Matthew 5:32, "but I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries her when she is divorced commits adultery." If Todd is sexually sinning as you have accused, the righteous thing to do is to follow the instructions as laid out in Matthew 18:15-17. Go to Todd alone and tell him. If he listens to you, then you have won him back to righteousness. However, if he does not listen to you, then you should take two or three back with you. If he does still refuse to listen to you, then you are to tell it to the church. This is all done to win Todd back to righteousness and to avoid divorce. Understand that God takes marriage seriously. He even refers to Israel as his bride and the New Testament church as the bride of Christ. Marriage is a covenant relationship that should not be quickly abandoned.
While you have asked for a no-fault divorce, we want to remind you that God does not grant divorces like the state does. He is not concerned with assets and fairness according to the law of the land. He is concerned with righteousness and living by His law. We encourage you to forgive as Christ has forgiven you. As it is written in Ephesians 4:32, "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you."
We also want to remind you that God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As it is written in 1 Corinthians 14:33, "for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace." We encourage you to seek peace and reconciliation in this situation, if at all possible.
We will pray for you, that God will guide you through this difficult time and give you wisdom and discernment. We pray that He will convict Todd of any sexual sin that he has committed and bring him to repentance. We pray that He will soften your heart and Todd's heart and bring healing and restoration to your marriage. We pray that you will be obedient to God's Word and seek His will in all things.
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we come before You today, lifting up our sister in Christ who is going through a difficult time in her marriage. We ask that You guide her through this situation and give her wisdom and discernment. We follow your instructions and forgive Todd of his sins and pray that he will repent for any sexual sin that he has committed. We pray for healing and restoration in their marriage, if it is Your holy will. We ask that You soften their hearts and bring peace and reconciliation to their marriage. We pray that You will be their maintainer and sustainer. We pray that you will at your will and timing rebuke Satan and his attempts to hinder the work of the Holy Spirit. We pray that they will be obedient to Your Word and seek Your will in all things. We ask this all in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.
Please consider the scriptures and strongly consider if divorce is warranted biblically.
