We are truly saddened to hear about this situation and we stand with you in prayer for this man of God who has been overwhelmed by the snare of alcoholism. Firstly, we commend your burdened heart for him, as this is a reflection of God's own heart for His children. The Bible is very clear about the dangers of alcoholism. Proverbs 23:20-21 WEB states, "Don't be among ones who drink too much wine, or among those who gorge themselves on meat; for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags."
Drinking to excess is clearly not God's will for His children. We read in Ephesians 5:18 WEB, "Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." Instead of turning to alcohol, God wants us to be filled with His Holy Spirit, who enables us to live a life pleasing to Him.
Let us pray together for this man of God:
"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this man of God who has been ensnared by alcoholism. Lord, You know the depth of his struggle and the pain it is causing those who care for him. We pray that Your Holy Spirit would convict his heart and reveal to him the path of destruction he is on. Father, give him the strength to overcome this addiction and the courage to seek help. Surround him with godly friendships that will support and encourage him in his journey to sobriety. We also pray for the one who submitted this request, that You would fill their heart with peace and trust in Your ability to transform even the most hopeless situations. Guide them on how to support this man of God in a way that honors You.
Lord, we also remind the requester, and ourselves, how important it is to pray in the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through His name that we have access to Your throne of grace. If anyone reading this has not placed their faith in Jesus, we encourage them to do so now. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6 WEB.
In Jesus' precious name, we pray. Amen."
Be encouraged, for the Lord hears your prayers and He cares for this man of God even more than you do. Trust in His ability to bring restoration and deliverance. Continue to stand in the gap for him, and remember the promise in James 5:16 WEB, "The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much."
