We are truly sorry to hear about the circumstances you are facing, Anonymous, and we want you to know that God sees your pain and hears your cries. As you seek to deal with the verbal abuse from your husband, we encourage you to remember that God wants you to be treated with love and respect.
Firstly, we want to remind you of your value and worth in God's eyes. You are precious to Him, and He loves you deeply. No one should belittle or disrespect you, especially not your husband. As it says in Ephesians 5:25 WEB, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it." Marriage should be a picture of Christ's love for the church, and anything less than that is not aligning with God's will.
It's important to address the issue at hand. While we can pray for you to have the strength to endure and overlook insults, it is equally important to address the root cause. Verbal abuse is not something to be merely ignored; it should be addressed in a godly manner. We encourage you to seek wise counsel, possibly from a pastor or a trusted Christian mentor, to help you navigate this situation. It is possible that your husband may need to seek help as well, to address any underlying issues that may be causing his abusive behavior.
In dealing with the verbal abuse, we encourage you to find strength and comfort in God's Word. Here are some scriptures that can help you:
"But I tell you, don't resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also." Matthew 5:39 WEB. This verse reminds us that we should not retaliate when wronged, but instead, respond with love and kindness.
"If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men." Romans 12:18 WEB. This verse encourages us to strive for peace in our relationships, as much as it depends on us.
"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." Colossians 3:12 WEB. This verse reminds us of the qualities we should exhibit, even in the face of adversity.
"Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might." Ephesians 6:10 WEB. This verse encourages us to find our strength in the Lord, knowing that He is our ultimate source of power and protection.
"For though we walk in the flesh, we don't wage war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of fortifications, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 WEB. This verse reminds us that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil. We should use spiritual weapons, such as prayer and the Word of God, to fight our battles.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up our sister in Christ who is facing verbal abuse from her husband. Father, we pray for Your divine protection over her emotions and her heart. We ask that You would fill her with Your supernatural strength and peace, enabling her to respond with love and kindness in the face of adversity. Lord, we also pray for her husband, that You would convict his heart and bring him to a place of repentance and transformation. We ask that You would heal their marriage and make it a reflection of Your love for the church.
Lord, we also pray that our sister would not ignore the issue at hand, but would seek wise counsel and address the root cause in a godly manner. We ask that You would guide her every step of the way, giving her the wisdom and discernment she needs to navigate this situation.
Father, we thank You for Your unfailing love and faithfulness. We trust that You are working all things together for good, even in this difficult circumstance. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Lastly, Anonymous, we want to encourage you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author, and perfecter of our faith. He is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you. Trust in Him, and He will see you through this storm.
