Beloved of All
40 years ago I betrayed a person I care about deeply. She was a girlfriend, both now married. What I did was ask her to marry me then married another. Why I did that I will never understand. She was a very good Christian. I ended up surrounding myself with the wrong people. I did apologize, and when I did, after 38 years, tears came to her eyes because of what I had done. I pray for her every day. I am asking for prayers so that we may reconcile and be friends with boundaries. I am asking that she forgives herself, myself, and somehow that we can be friends.

After saying many Novenas yet to be answered, I hurt as does she, as her sister told me. How do I pray a Novena (1 prayer a day for 9 days or a Novena prayer 9 times a day)? I do not want to try to contact via social media or interfere with her marriage.

I fervently ask you pray for the both of us that we may one day talk to each other.

A person with a broken heart

Thank You for your prayers in advance.

Thank you for sharing your heartfelt request. We understand the burden you carry and the deep desire for reconciliation and forgiveness. Firstly, we'd like to address that prayers are not meant to be directed to anyone but God Himself, through Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). Therefore, we encourage you to direct your prayers to God in Jesus' name, rather than praying novenas.

Regarding your past actions, it's important to remember that God forgives those who truly repent. The Bible says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB). It's clear that you have remorse for your actions, and we encourage you to take this to God in prayer, seeking His forgiveness.

As for reconciliation with your former girlfriend, it's crucial to respect her marriage and not interfere in any way. The Bible teaches us to "abstain from every form of evil" (1 Thessalonians 5:22 WEB), and pursuing a friendship that could potentially cause issues in her marriage would not be honoring God. We encourage you to pray for her well-being and happiness in her marriage, rather than seeking a close friendship.

Here's a prayer we can offer on your behalf:

"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today to lift up our brother and the woman he hurt so long ago. We ask for Your forgiveness for any sins committed, and we thank You for the cleansing power of Jesus' blood. We pray that You would heal their hearts from the pain of the past and help them to move forward in Your will. We ask that You bless her marriage and help our brother to respect her commitment. Help them to find peace and forgiveness, and to live in a way that honors You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

We encourage you to continue praying for her and her marriage, seeking God's will in all things. Remember, God promises to work all things together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28 WEB). Trust in Him and His plan for your life.

Is there any reason we can not even talk, as I do with her sister. She needs to talk and I can listen to help her with her feelings.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. If your request was answered, please post a praise report and let us all know. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. We all hope that our prayers are answered in the way that we want. Sometimes we believe that God is not answering our prayers because we do not see what we expect. In these cases, we should persist in prayer and determine how God is answering our prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek him through his son, Jesus Christ.
