Friends, we have received a request to pray with pastors in Myanmar who experienced the atrocities of Myanmar's military junta in the past. Since the latest military coup in February, some pastors - traumatised by memories of the past - have not been able to read the Bible, pray or encourage the believers. Many pastors suffered under the brutal military dictatorship that gripped Myanmar for much of the late 20th century, and the coup in February brings this trauma to the forefront of their minds. These pastors are now paralyzed by fear, and unable to lead the church.
Pastor Min shared with one of our partners: "Since the coup started, I don't feel much like praying or reading the Bible and doing my devotion. I feel lethargic to preach and I don't know how to pray."
Pastor Zaw is a pastor who converted from Buddhism. He has not been able to preach since the military coup started. He slips into depression while reading news about the country on the internet. Through the help of Open Doors partners, he was able to have a debriefing session with a professional Christian counselor. After the session, Pastor Zaw said: "I had the strength to close the Facebook window and look up to God alone."
Pray pastors are strengthened in the power of His might (Eph.6.10) and healed from their past traumas.
