We are delighted to join you in prayer as you begin this new friendship. It's wonderful that you both share a foundation in Christ. We will pray for God's will to be done in this situation and for you to have wisdom and discernment moving forward.
Let us remember that God's Word tells us: "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB). Although both of you are Christians, it's crucial to ensure that you are equally yoked in your beliefs, values, and commitment to Christ.
We must also remember that "above all, that you love one another deeply, from the heart." (1 Peter 1:22). This love should be pure and focused on encouraging each other in your walks with Christ.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You lifting up our friend who is starting a new friendship. We pray that You grant them wisdom and discernment as they get to know each other. May their friendship be centered around You, Lord, and may it bring glory to Your name.
If it is Your will, Lord, that this friendship blossoms into something more, we pray that You guide them every step of the way. May they pursue this relationship in a manner that honors You, keeping their minds and bodies pure and holy.
We pray that they would not forget to "flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." (1 Corinthians 6:18 WEB). We pray that they would respect each other and their relationship, remembering "Let us walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts." (Romans 13:13-14 WEB).
We ask this in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Lastly, we want to encourage you to keep God at the center of this friendship. Remember that "unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it." (Psalm 127:1 WEB). Trust in Him, and He will direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB)
If you have not already, discuss your faith and beliefs openly with your friend. It's important to know that you both are aligned in your commitment to Christ. We would also like to discuss the importance of the name of Jesus. It is only by His name that we have access to God. As scripture tells us "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus," (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB) and "in no other is there salvation, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, through which we must be saved!" (Acts 4:12 WEB). If you have not already, make sure to discuss Jesus with your friend and be sure to pray together in His name.
