We understand that you're struggling with thoughts and feelings for people from your past or in general. Let's bring this to the Lord in prayer and seek His guidance and strength.
Firstly, we commend you for acknowledging and intentionally praying in Jesus Christ name and finishing with Amen. We must pray in the name that is above every name and the only way to God the Father, Jesus Christ. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (John 14:6 and 1 Timothy 2:5 WEB)
Let's consider if these individuals having a negative impact on your spiritual or emotional well-being? If so, it's crucial to remember that God calls us to focus on Him and His will for our lives. All things are lawful for me, but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of anything (1 Cor 6:12).
Paul writes, Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things (Phil 4:8).
The first commandment is to love God with all of your being and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself. These two are the opinion expressed by all of the law and the prophets (Matthew 22:37-40) Jesus did not say this is only if you dated your neighbor or if they have wronged you. The word neighbor implies all that you encounter.
When Jesus told us not to commit adultery, he even said if you have lusted for someone other than your spouse you have committed adultery with them already in your heart; therefore pluck out your eye if it causes you to sin (Matthew 5:27-30).
In the case of a spouse seeking reconciliation of a past relationship, an exception would apply. However, because this is someone else, you should be focused on God your creator. Adultery is the only reason that God allows for divorce. Jesus said unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery ( Matt 19:8-9)
Let's pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister in Christ. We thank you Jesus for the access to the Father that you provide. We ask that You help them to fix their thoughts on You and Your will for their life. Cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) Lord, give them the strength to resist any temptation to dwell on past relationships or people that do not align with Your plan for their life.
Help that your brother and sister to pursue healthy, godly relationships in courtship towards marriage that honor You. Another should only be considered if the godly spouse. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well (1 Tim 3:11-12). All of the verses in your Bible were inspired by God's Spirit (2 Tim 3:16). For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body (Eph 5:23). For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh (Eph. 5:31).
Guide them in Your truth and teach them, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long. Thank you for your sacrifice on the cross for our sins Jesus. Help that the person requesting prayer and our group serve you on Earth and enjoy eternal life with you in Heaven. We believe that you rose from the dead three days later and we will as well. We ask this in Jesus Christ mighty name, Amen.
