We are grateful for this prayer request focusing on remembering and obeying one of the Ten Commandments. It is wonderful that this request is made in Jesus Christ's name, as it is only through Him that we have access to God the Father. As it is written in John 14:6 WEB Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. and in Acts 4:12 :Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!
The Ten Commandments are a foundational part of God's law, given to us to guide us in living a life that honors Him. Remembering and obeying them is crucial for every believer. We read in Exodus 20:1-17 WEB, God spoke all these words, saying, I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
You shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me, and showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Because some may know what idolatry and other sins mentioned in Exodus look like in the natural, not knowing the spiritual understanding, we remember the explanation in Colossians 3:5 WEB: Put to death therefore your members which are on the earth: sexual immorality, uncleanness, depraved passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
May the Holy Spirit guide us to the truth of all sins which separate us from Him today, because He is faithful in making these sins known to us as we are obedient in Christ. Amen.
Forgiveness is a promise for sin when confessing and turning away from idolatry and any sins listed in Exodus and in the New Testament as every sin should be recognized so that we may be cleansed from all unrighteousness. We study in Isaiah 1:18 WEB: Come now, and let us reason together, says Yahweh: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
You shall not take the name of Yahweh your God in vain, for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahweh your God. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your man-servant, nor your maid-servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates; You do not have a Christian Father if you do not call upon His name, Jesus Christ. For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. We read in Matthew 12:33-37 WEB: Either make the tree good, and its fruit good, or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by its fruit. You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. The good man out of his good treasure brings out good things, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings out evil things. I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.
As to identifying the Sabbath, the Apostle Paul tells in Colossians 2:16-17 WEB: Let no man therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day, which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ's. and Romans 14:5-6 WEB: One man esteems one day as more important. Another esteems every day alike. Let each man be fully assured in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; In its proper context, God’s affirmations regarding Sabbath are toward us who are Receivers of Law to show we were in bondage for our transgressions. The Lord Jesus offers us rest in Matthew 11:28-30 WEB: Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burdento bear is light.
You shall not dishonor your Father and Mother. We pray that He help us identify and recognize The need to Honor One's parents.
You shall honor your father and your mother
You shall not commit Adultery or fornication. We pray that He deliver His children all sexual immorality and seek to make couples Holy in marriage or single lives lived one man and one woman.
You shall not commit adultery. It is very sad how rampant a spirit of adultery or pornea is in our society. They said Jesus did away with our following the Ten Commandments with the Law and Prophets. This is misapplication of the context of Matthew 5:17-28 WEB
o not think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I did not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished. Whoever, therefore, shall break one of these least commandments, and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, 'You shall not murder;' and 'Whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.' But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment; and whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' will be in danger of the council; and whoever says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.
If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him in the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison. Most certainly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there, until you have paid the last penny.
You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery;' but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna. If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.
Indeed, the result of a sinful adulterous nature is spiritual death and eternal judgement. This is only by our personal receivement of Grace and Mercy which is Jesus Christ as taught by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us instructions in I Corinthians 6:18-20 WEB; Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. Paul addresses this sin very blatantly and advises believers to keep themselves from an adulterous nature. Though it is a very difficult sin for some to overcome, it must be put to death by the spiritual strength that is given by the Holy Spirit as the individual submits to Christ. We are to crucify our flesh which entails putting to death our physical desires that are contrary to the will of God.
You shall not steal anything through graft, cunning, or work of the flesh.
You shall not give false testimony of your neighbor.
You shall not covet of your neighbor's wife or acquaintance, though not married. You shall not covet thy neighbor's wife nor any possessions of our neighbor.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, grateful for the guidance of the Ten Commandments. We ask that You help us to remember and obey them, that we may live a life pleasing to You. We pray you intervene and give grace and mercy where we may be not honoring You within them as You intend. Help us to seek them with the heart so that we may be faithful to you and show your nature before each other. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Let our prayers be according to His will so that He hears us. We read in I John 5:14-15 WEB: This is the confidence which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.
