Prayer to save marriage on the brink of divorce

Anonymous

Beloved of All
My husband holds deep resentment and anger toward me for years of hurt he says I put him through in our marriage. I recognize we both did wrongs to each other in our marriage, but I’ve been able to let go and move forward but he continues to hold on to the past and recognizes that this is the only thing holding us back in moving forward at this point. He almost left 3 weeks ago but I managed to convince him to stay a bit longer to try to salvage out almost 20 year marriage. I realize I took him for granted many times and I wanted to know we had done everything we could do to save our marriage. Please pray that for his heart to open and let the resentment go and to see that the changes I’ve made and continue to make are permanent and not just a manifestation tactic. We have two young daughters who are affected by the tense state of our marriage and who will be devastated if we split up. Please, please pray. Thank you.

We are truly saddened to hear about the struggles you're facing in your marriage, but we are encouraged by your desire to fight for it. God's heart is for reconciliation and redemption, and we believe that with Him, all things are possible.

Firstly, we commend you for acknowledging the wrongs on both sides and your ability to move forward. This is a testament to the work God has already done in your heart. It is only by the name of Jesus Christ that we can be saved. We remember the words of the Apostle Peter, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12, WEB). It is only by the name of Jesus Christ we can receive salvation, forgiveness, and marriage restoration. When appropriate you should ask him to pray with you to the heavenly Father in Jesus name.

However, we want to remind you that true forgiveness is not merely words, but an action that involves letting go of bitterness and resentment. As it is written, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God also in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:31-32, WEB).

We urge you both to embrace this forgiveness, not only for the sake of your marriage but also for your personal healing and growth. Resentment is a heavy burden to bear, and it will only cause further harm if left unaddressed.

We also want to encourage you to continue making the changes you've started. Actions speak louder than words, and your husband will see the permanence of your changes through your consistent effort. Remember, "A good man brings forth good things out of the good treasure of his heart, and the evil man brings forth evil things out of the evil treasure of his heart. For out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks" (Luke 6:45, WEB).

As for your husband, we pray that God will soften his heart and open his eyes to see the changes you're making. We pray that he will find the strength to let go of the past and forgive, just as Christ forgave us.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You today, lifting up this marriage that is on the brink of divorce. We ask, Lord, that You would intervene, that You would soften hearts and open eyes. Help them to see each other as You see them, to forgive as You forgive.

Lord, we ask that You would heal the years of hurt and resentment, that You would replace it with love, patience, and kindness. Help them to remember the vows they made to each other and to You.

We ask that You would guide them, that You would give them wisdom and discernment as they navigate this difficult time. Help them to seek You first, to trust in Your will and Your timing.

We pray for their daughters, Lord. We ask that You would protect their hearts and minds, that You would give them peace and security despite the tension in their home.

We pray all these things in Jesus' name, believing that with You, all things are possible, and trusting that Your will be done and not our own.

Amen.

Lastly, we want to leave you with these words from Philippians 4:6-7 (WEB): "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."

We urge you both to continue praying together, to seek God's will for your marriage, and to trust in His faithfulness.

We're right there with you, dear one, holding your marriage in our hearts. We've been where you are, and we know it's a tough road, but remember, God is faithful and He's walking this path with you.

We've been praying for you, and we want to encourage you to keep pressing on. We see the progress you've made, and it's inspiring. Keep making those changes, keep growing, and keep loving. Your husband needs to see that you're serious about this, and actions speak louder than words.

But we also want to remind you to be patient with him. Healing takes time, and it's okay if he's not ready to let go of the hurt just yet. Keep praying for him, keep loving him, and keep being the change you want to see in your marriage.

And remember, it's not just about you and your husband. Your daughters are watching, learning, and being affected by all of this. Let's pray for them too, that they may find peace and understanding in this difficult time.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today, lifting up this marriage that's hanging in the balance. Lord, we ask that You would heal the hurts, soften the hearts, and open the eyes. Help them to see each other as You see them, to love as You love.

Lord, we ask for wisdom and discernment for them, that they may navigate this difficult time with Your guidance. Help them to seek You first, to trust in Your will and Your timing.

We pray for their daughters, Lord. Protect their hearts and minds, give them peace and security in this uncertain time.

We pray all these things in Jesus' name, believing that with You, all things are possible. Amen.

Keep fighting, dear one. Keep loving. Keep trusting. And remember, you're not alone. We're right here with you, praying for you, every step of the way.

"May the Lord bless you
