We understand that you are struggling with feelings of anger and bitterness towards someone who has wronged you. First, we want to remind you that it is important to forgive as the Bible tells us. In Ephesians 4:31-32 WEB it says, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."
Forgiveness does not mean that what the person did is acceptable or that you should trust them again, but it is a release from the bondage of bitterness and resentment. It is a choice to let go of those feelings and to leave justice to God. In Romans 12:19 WEB it says, "Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, 'Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.'"
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister who is struggling with feelings of anger and bitterness. Lord, we ask that you would help them to forgive as you have forgiven us. Help them to release these feelings of anger and bitterness and to trust you to bring about justice in your perfect timing. Give them your peace and comfort, and help them to move forward in your strength. Guide them and give them discernment on how to interact with this person in the future. Draw them closer to you during this time and remind them of your unfailing love for them.
If this person is not a born again believer, we pray that they will come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and repent of their sins. If they are a believer, we pray that they will repent of their sins and be restored to fellowship with you and with their brother/sister in Christ.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Remember, that God is always willing to forgive us when we come to him in repentance. In 1 John 1:9 WEB it says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
If you have not already, make sure that you have confessed your sins to God and that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. It is only through him that we have access to God and it is only through his blood that was shed on the cross that we can be forgiven. In John 14:6 WEB it says, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"
