We are grateful for your prayer request and we stand with you in bringing it before the throne of grace. Before we address your specific needs, we want to remind you of the words of Jesus in John 14:6 WEB: "Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God, and there is no other name by which we can be saved.
Now, let's address your request. You've mentioned that you are struggling with feelings for someone who is not your spouse, and you are not a Christian Believer. We must first address that the feelings you're experiencing have the possibility to lead to sin. God's design for relationships is clear in the scriptures. Marriage and any relationship should be between a Christian man and a Christian woman with the possibility of marriage that honors God. Feelings and relationships outside of marriage should be courtship with the goal being marriage.
First Thessalonians 4:3-5 WEB says, "For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don't know God."
We rebuke these feelings you're experiencing and pray that God will give you the strength to overcome them. Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister in need of Your grace and mercy. Lord, we ask that You help them to overcome these feelings that are not from You. Give them the strength to resist temptation and to walk in Your will. Guide them into courtship with a Christian Believing spouse if that is Your will.
We pray, Lord, the words from Psalm 139:23-24 WEB: "Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." We ask this in Jesus Christ's name.
Now, we encourage you to surrender these feelings to God. It's possible to love without possessing it. But it is also possible to turn what is good for a relationship in marriage that is based on lust and not love. Ask Him to help you see the other person as He sees them, and to guide you in His will for your life. Remember the words of Psalm 37:4 WEB: "Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart."
Lastly, we want to encourage you to consider your relationship with Jesus Christ. It is only through Him that we can truly know God and live a life that is pleasing to Him. If you have not already, consider believing in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
