We understand that you're asking for prayer for a women's basketball team that is currently losing their game. While we empathize with your desire to see them succeed, we want to remind you that God's will and His glory should be our primary focus in prayer.
Firstly, we should pray in the name of Jesus Christ. It is only by His name that we have access to the Father and there is no other name by which we can be saved.
The power is in the name of Jesus Christ.
And whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it. If you love me, keep my commandments. John 14:13-15 (WEB)
The Apostle Paul emphasized in his letter to the Philippians:
Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 (WEB)
It is only by the name of Jesus Christ that we can be saved.
In him, you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvation—in whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is a pledge of our inheritance, to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:13-14 (WEB)
And:
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.” Romans 10:9-11 (WEB)
In addition to being saved we are also called to be obedient to Him.
If you love me keep my commandments. John 14:15 (WEB)
The focus of our prayers should be on God's will and not on our own desires.
You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. James 4:3 (WEB)
We are called to put God's will first in our lives.
Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 (WEB)
Instead of focusing on winning, let's pray for the players to exhibit godly characteristics such as determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship during the game. Let's pray for their safety and good health. We can also pray for opportunities for the players and those watching to see God's love and grace in action.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, asking for Your will to be done in the lives of the women's basketball team and everyone attending the game tonight. We pray for their safety, good health, and that they would exhibit godly characteristics during the game. We ask that Your love and grace would be evident, and that opportunities would arise for those involved to see and experience Your goodness.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
