We understand that you're struggling with temptation, Likmeksos, and we're here to support you in prayer and truth. Firstly, we want to remind you that there is no difference between smoking cigarettes or a cigar in God's eyes. Both are harmful to your body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. The Bible tells us, "Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 WEB).
Smoking is a habit that can control you, and as believers, we are to be controlled by the Spirit, not by our fleshly desires. "I say then, walk in the Spirit, and you won't fulfill the lust of the flesh" (Galatians 5:16 WEB).
We also want to address that God's forgiveness is available to us when we repent. Repentance means to change from doing bad to doing good. It means turning away from our sins and asking God for help to follow Him. Repentance is necessary for God to forgive us. "Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord" (Acts 3:19 WEB).
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus, lifting up Likmeksos. Lord, we ask that you help Likmeksos resist this sin of smoking and any other sin and that you will give him the strength to overcome. We know that you are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9 WEB). Lord, we ask that you will help Likmeksos to glorify you in his body and spirit and that you give him the strength to walk in the Spirit. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you, Likmeksos, to stand firm in your faith and to resist the temptation to smoke. Remember that God is with you and that He is faithful to help you overcome. Don't forget that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and that you are to glorify God in your body and spirit. We also can argue that this temptation to smoke is an addiction. Contact a local pastor or other Christian counselor to help with this problem. Reach out to other Christian believers and allow them to help you as well. We are specifically commanded to help each other with our burdens. "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2 WEB). Also, don't forget to rely on Jesus Christ and not just God. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. The Bible tells us, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). Also, there is no other name by which we can be saved. In Acts, the Bible tell us, "In him there is no other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12 WEB). We are saved by Jesus Christ. You need to believe in Jesus Christ for salvation. You need to accept him as your Savior. The Bible tells us, "that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed. For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on him. For, Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:9-13 WEB).
