We join with you in lifting up the former President, recognizing that all authority is from God, and he was instituted as such by God Himself as told to us in Romans 13:1: Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. Even now, though he has served his term, we can continue to pray for his well-being and strength.
As followers of Christ, we are called to pray for those in authority, as told to us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2:
First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, requests, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all others who are in authority, that we may live in peace and quietness in all godliness and reverence.
We pray for his health and protection, asking God to surround him with His angels and keep him from all harm and evil, as we are reminded in Psalm 91:11:
For he will assign his angels to you, to watch over you and to guard you wherever you go.
Regarding the legal matters he is facing, we pray for justice and truth to prevail. We remember that God is a God of justice, and we trust in His sovereignty over all things, including human courts, as stated in Proverbs 21:1:
The king's heart is in the hand of Yahweh as the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.
While we pray for fairness and acquittal, we must also remember that God's ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts, as told to us in Isaiah 55:9:
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
We commend you for praying in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father, as we are told in John 14:6:
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."
Together, let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up our former President. We ask for Your strength and comfort to fill him during this challenging time. Surround him with Your angels and protect him from all harm and evil. We pray for Your will to be done in the ICC court, and for justice and truth to prevail. Guide the justices and all those involved in the case. We ask that You continue to use our former President for Your purposes, and that Your will be done in his life and in our nation. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Lastly, though you may feel it is a given to pray in Jesus' name, we encourage you to always state it. This is because it is only by His name that we have access to the Father and there is no other name by which we can be saved. This is reinforced in Acts 4:11-12:
This Jesus is 'the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.'
Salvation is in none other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we must be saved!
