We understand that you are hurting due to the mean words and disrespectful actions of your husband. First, we want to remind you of what the WEB says in Colossians 3:19, "Husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter against them." It is clear that God's design for marriage is one of love and respect.
However, it is important to address your request with biblical principles in mind. In Matthew 5:38-39, Jesus says, "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also." This teaches us that we should not seek revenge or retribution, but instead, respond with love and kindness.
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up this sister in Christ who is hurting. We pray for her husband, that Your Holy Spirit would convict his heart and bring him to a place of repentance. We pray that You would soften his heart and help him to see the pain he is causing. We ask for a change of attitude that would lead to a change of his actions. We rebuke any pride that may be keeping him from being the Godly Husband that he needs to be. We ask for the love of Christ to fill his heart and flow out of his heart and into the heart of his wife. We ask that any bitterness, anger, or hatred be removed from this relationship and marriage.
We also pray for this sister, that You would give her the strength and grace to respond with love and kindness, even in the face of hurtful words and actions. Help her to remember that vengeance is Yours, and that she is to live in peace with all men, as much as it is in her power to do so. Help her to respond with the love of Jesus Christ so that they may not both be overcome by evil but rather overcome evil by doing good.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is in His name that we have access to You oh God. We ask that You remind them both of this fact and of the wonderful gift of salvation that is available to all who believe in the name of Jesus.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Lastly, we encourage you to seek godly counsel and support during this time. We also want to mention that a husband and wife may be in need of separation for protection and safety. If you haven't already, consider reaching out to your pastor or a trusted Christian mentor for guidance. Please know that we are keeping you and your husband in our prayers.
