We commend you, SalmaSalem, for your desire to seek God's will and for acknowledging that believers should not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. It brings strife and uncertainty which can lead to a life of unrest and possibly even emotional pain, as you have had.
Firstly, scripture is clear.
2 Corinthians 6:14-16
"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness? What agreement has Christ with Beliar? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever? What agreement has a temple of God with idols? For you are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, 'I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people.'
This doesn't mean that a Christian cannot have any relationship with a non-Christian, but a marriage, courtship, or anything close to a marriage relationship with a non-Christian or anyone immoral. A spouse should only be chosen of a Christian Believer. Because of Nazem's rejection of Jesus Christ, he is still bound in the chains of Islam and would cause friction and discord in your life and his. Those who say he is an amazing human being, that is the snare of Satan to drag you back into the trap. No one is amazing if they are a Muslim or unbeliever in God's eyes. This is meant in all humbleness and not in arrogance. Nazem can only be amazing in God eyes if he accepts the atonement of Jesus Christ.
You are right to feel emotional pain. God is showing you that something is wrong and not according with His plans for your life. Rather than waiting for him, use this time to seek God's face and His will for your life. God has a plan for you, and it might not include Nazem if he does not accept Jesus Christ as his savior. To know God's will from our own will we must seek him in everything. Listen to what God says in
Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.
We encourage you to surrender this situation completely to the Lord, trusting that He will align your desires with His will. Keep praying that God will reveal His plan for your life and that He will give you the strength and wisdom to follow it. Seek out a Godly man that will love you in the Lord and not just be amazing, but an asset to your love for God and your growth in Him.
We pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift up SalmaSalem to You, asking for Your wisdom and discernment in her situation with Nazem. If Nazem is to be the one for SalmaSalem, then we pray his heart softens to the truth of Jesus and accepts the Jesus Christ, so that he may enter into a Godly marriage with SalmaSalem. If he is not, we pray that You remove any feelings she has for him and direct her to another. We ask for Your healing touch on her emotions, and reassure her that there is no one more amazing or better than Jesus. Give her strength, comfort and wisdom, even in this situation. Enable her to hear your word and understand your will. Jesus said it plainly, and what wonderful word they are.
John 8:32
You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.'
We pray for Nazem's salvation, that his eyes may be opened to the truth of the gospel and that he may come to know Jesus Christ.
This in prayer in Jesus name we pray. Amen.
