Prayer for Upcoming Marriage

Hello, everyone. I wanted to update you about Brad and me. After agreeing to the party for my sake, he began to say that if anything small happens, he's "done" with the relationship and us at the party. He also began cursing my mom and saying things like he hated her since he still felt strongly against doing the party. I told him what he said was wrong and not of God, but he doesn't take accountability for mistakes or humble himself. Instead, he tries to throw all the fault/blame back on me. He said I overestimated how much I think he cared about me in his heart and that he was only doing the party for God since God had shown him we needed to be together. He also said that he doesn't care whose feelings he's hurt because he's only focused on doing what God told him to do as far as it's possible for him; he continued to say that I should be "grateful" that he's taking me out of a witchcraft house. He also said that he didn't want any of his family to come to the party because he just wanted it to be over with when part of the party was for my family to meet him for the first time. I don't know how to feel about him or the relationship anymore because I shared what he said to his sister-in-law, and she said that I should leave him because it's clear he doesn't truly love me. Please pray for us because I'm going 1 step forward and 5 steps back with Brad. I am thankful that God allowed some agreement for the party, but his behavior was wrong. His family also said that he's selfish, and a lot of his previous relationships ended because he was controlling/manipulative towards them, so I pray that isn't the case for me now. Pray for God to change his mindset, mood, and attitude regarding this and that he apologizes for his mistakes. Pray that Brad is understanding, patient, and at peace regarding me, my family, and the party. Pray that my family is also at peace with him too. I haven't discussed anything with my mom yet because I'm afraid that he might back out of doing the party so pray for unity and harmony between us all. In Jesus's name, amen. Thank you.

Splanchnomos, we have read your prayer request regarding your upcoming marriage to Brad and the challenges you're facing. We are here to pray with you and provide counsel based on the Word of God.

Firstly, we want to commend you for your commitment to honor God in your relationship. It's crucial to remember that God's design for marriage is that it should reflect Christ's love for the church (Ephesians 5:25-33 WEB). This means that both parties should be committed to loving and serving one another, just as Christ loved and served us.

However, we must address some concerning behaviors you've mentioned about Brad. The lack of accountability, the manipulative behavior, and the disrespect towards your mother are not in line with biblical principles. In Ephesians 4:31-32 (WEB), we are told to "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."

Moreover, the fact that Brad is using God's will as an excuse to hurt others is a form of spiritual manipulation. This is not the heart of a man who fears God. In 1 John 4:20 (WEB), it is written, "If a man says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?"

We need to pray for Brad, that God will soften his heart and bring him to genuine repentance. But we also need to pray for you, that God will give you wisdom and discernment. It is not God's will for you to be in a relationship where you are not treated with love and respect. Remember, in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (WEB), love is described as patient, kind, not arrogant or rude, not insisting on its own way, not irritable or resentful, not rejoicing in wrongdoing, but rejoicing in the truth.

Let us pray:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today to lift up Splanchnomos and Brad. Lord, we ask that You would work in Brad's heart, that You would soften it and bring him to a place of genuine repentance. Help him to see the error of his ways and to turn from them. Help him to understand that love is patient, love is kind, and love does not dishonor others.

Lord, we also pray for Splanchnomos. Give her wisdom and discernment as she navigates this relationship. Help her to see Your will clearly and to have the strength to follow it. Protect her heart, Lord, and comfort her in this time of confusion and hurt.

We ask that You would bring peace and unity to their relationship, and to the relationship between Brad and Splanchnomos' family. Help them to communicate effectively and to honor each other in their words and actions.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lastly, we want to encourage you to seek godly counsel in your life. This could be from a pastor, a mentor, or a trusted friend who is firmly rooted in the Word of God. They can provide you with guidance and support as you navigate this difficult situation.

Remember, God loves you deeply and wants the best for you. Trust in Him, and He will guide your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB).

We want to encourage you to keep communicating openly and honestly with Brad. It's important that you both express your feelings and listen to each other. Remember, God calls us to love each other as He loves us (John 13:34-35). That means being patient, kind, and understanding.

We also want to remind you that you deserve to be treated with respect and love. God has a plan for your life, and it's not one that includes being hurt or manipulated. Trust in Him and His plan for you.

Lord, we ask that you would bring peace and unity to their relationship. Help them to communicate effectively and to honor each other in their words and actions. Help their families to also communicate and interact in a peaceful and respectful manner.
