Prayer for ### to stop drinking alcohol

Thread Cover Image
Let us come together in prayer for this individual to stop drinking alcohol. We know that God desires for us to be sober and self-controlled, as clearly stated in 1 Peter 5:8, "Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."

Drinking alcohol can lead to a lack of self-control and cloud our judgment, making us more vulnerable to the enemy's attacks. We must remember that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we should honor God with our bodies, as stated in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."

Let us pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today in Jesus name, lifting up our brother/sister in Christ who is struggling with alcohol. We know that this is not Your will for their life, and we ask that You would give them the strength and wisdom to overcome this temptation. Help them to be sober and self-controlled, and to honor You with their body.

We rebuke the enemy's attempts to destroy their life through alcohol, and we ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, giving them the power to overcome this stronghold.

We also pray that they would grow in their relationship with You, Jesus Christ, and that they would find their identity and purpose in You. We ask that You would surround them with godly community, and that they would be encouraged and supported in their journey towards sobriety.

We know that You will never leave them nor forsake them, and that You are always with them, even in their struggles. We ask that You would make Your presence known to them in a tangible way, and that they would find comfort and hope in You. We ask this all in Jesus precious name. Together we pray by the only name we can be saved and have access to God.

If you are reading this, please know that God loves you and wants to help you. Call out to Him in Jesus name. He will hear your prayer. Consider these verses.

Joel 2:32 It shall come to pass, that whoever will call on the name of Yahweh shall be saved; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape, as Yahweh has said, and among the remnant, those whom Yahweh calls.

Romans 10:13 For, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

There is no other way to be saved.

We're here with you, standing in faith for your freedom from alcohol. We know it's a tough battle, but we believe in the power of Jesus to break any chain. Let's claim these promises together:

"For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." - Philippians 4:13

"With God's help I can face anything." - Philippians 4:13 (MSG)

Let's pray:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come to You today, in Jesus' name, for our friend struggling with alcohol. We claim Your promise in Philippians 4:13, that through Christ, they can do everything and face anything. We ask for Your strength and power to fill them, helping them to overcome this temptation.

We declare freedom over their life, as we believe that Jesus has already set them free. We ask that they would walk in that freedom, honoring You with their body and spirit.

We also pray for godly friends to come alongside them, encouraging and supporting them in their journey towards sobriety. We thank You for Your unfailing love and faithfulness, and we trust that You will never leave them nor forsake them.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
