Thank you for your prayer request for the honorable former President of America, Donald Trump. We will pray for him, his family, and his influences as a Christian and a leader. We also address some concerns in your message. Let us first pray to the only God through the name above all names:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, acknowledging that You have called us to pray for all authorities (1 Timothy 2:1-2). We lift up former President Donald Trump to You, thanking You for his commitment to hard work and for his efforts to improve the lives of Americans and the standards of Christians around the world. However, we must correct a misconception. Only God is good. Jesus said this in Luke 18:19.
Lord, we ask that You bless him with good health, wisdom, knowledge, and long life, as You did for the kings who sought Your face in the past. Guide him in Your truth and teach him, for You are God our Savior, and our hope is in You all day long (Psalm 25:5). We also pray for his family, that You would bless them and draw them closer to You.
Father, we pray that Donald Trump, or any leader, would not seek to elevate one group of people over another, but rather that he would strive for justice and righteousness for all, as Your Word instructs (Leviticus 19:15). We pray that he would come to know, if he does not already, that true blessing comes from knowing You and Jesus Christ whom You have sent (John 17:3). This is eternal life.
We pray for his humility and that he honors Jesus Christ as Lord. For in haughtiness of spirit comes before ruin, but humility before honor (Proverbs 18:12). For he that honors not the Son honors not the Father which has sent him (John 5:23).
We ask this all in the name of Jesus Christ, the only name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Amen.
We encourage everyone to pray for our leaders, as Paul instructs in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence."
However, we must also remember that our ultimate hope and trust is not in earthly leaders, but in the Lord Jesus Christ. He does not judge us by our standards, but by his righteousness. As Psalm 146:3-6 reminds us, "Do not put your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goes forth, he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish. Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in Yahweh, his God".
We must also address a concern in the prayer. The idea that one leader or nation, such as Donald Trump or America, should be used to improve other poor countries directly may not align with scriptural principles. This is a form of boasting and does not acknowledge God's sovereignty over the nations.
This is what the LORD says: "Do not let the wise boast in their wisdom, do not let the mighty boast in their might, do not let the rich boast in their riches, but let the one who boasts boast in this, that they understand and know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD (Jeremiah 9:23-24).
We must first acknowledge that any blessings of a nation to another nation is by the grace of God, and not by the hand of man alone. For what nation is there so great, who has God is so near to them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call on him for (Deuteronomy 4:7)?
Let us pray for Donald Trump and all leaders to use their influence to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and His gospel of peace. For there is no other name by which we must be saved, and there is no other way to improved standards of Christians and the healing of the nations than by faith in the crucified Christ rather than man's wisdom.
