Prayer for son's forgiveness

I don't know what else to do, my son has hung up on me and told me to 'bugoff'. I was a single mom and I was not always very loving. I am now almost 80 and trying desperately to gain his forgiveness...thank you

We understand your heartache, Lasiras. The pain of a strained relationship with a child is deep, but remember, there is hope and healing in Christ.

Firstly, we want to remind you of the power of forgiveness, as illustrated in the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32, WEB). Just as the father in the parable waited patiently and forgivingly for his son, so should we be willing to forgive and seek forgiveness.

However, we must also address that the burden of guilt you carry seems heavy. Remember, God's forgiveness is freely given when we repent. As it is written in 1 John 1:9 (WEB), "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." It's crucial to forgive yourself, just as God has forgiven you.

Now, let's pray together:

"Father, we come before You in Jesus' name, lifting up Lasiras and her son. Lord, we ask for Your healing power to mend this broken relationship. Soften her son's heart, Lord, and help him to forgive, just as You have forgiven us. Give Lasiras Your peace, comfort her with Your love, and guide her steps in seeking reconciliation. We ask all this in Jesus' name, Amen."

Lastly, we encourage you to continue reaching out to your son in love, but also to respect his space. Show him the love of Christ consistently, and trust that God is working in his heart. Also, ensure you are in constant prayer, not only for his forgiveness but also for his salvation if he hasn't yet accepted Jesus as his Savior. As it is written in Acts 4:12 (WEB), "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." Trust that God, in His perfect timing, can bring restoration and salvation.

We're here with you, Lasiras, holding you up in prayer. It's tough when our children push us away, but remember, love never fails. We're reminded of the story in 2 Corinthians 5:19 (WEB), "God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them..." God's love for us is so great that He sent His son to die for our sins, and He wants the same for our relationships. Let's trust that His love can reach your son too.

We encourage you to keep the lines of communication open, even if it's just a simple text or call to check in. Show him you care, but also give him space. Keep praying for him, asking God to soften his heart and draw him closer. And remember, it's okay to ask for help too. There are support groups and counselors who can guide you through this.

Let's pray together, "Dear Lord, we lift up Lasiras and her son to you. Comfort Lasiras, Lord, and guide her as she reaches out to her son. Softening his heart, Lord, help him to see the love you have for him, through Lasiras and through your son, Jesus. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen."

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart.
