We understand that you're seeking peace and harmony in your home, Khugowe. Let's first point out that Our help comes from the name of the Lord, which is why scripture calls us to pray in the name of Jesus. First, we want to make sure you have a true relationship of faith and that you know that our only means of prayer to God is through Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son. We will look for an explicit confirmation of this in future posts. This is the most important thing that needs to be understood. Without Jesus, there is no other way to access God. We assume that when you mention home that you are referring to a house with a family of more than one person.
First thing mentioned is to be called is that without a mention of a marriage, strife in a home would indicate people are living together, it is a non-Christian path to live together and have sex before marriage. That is against scripture in a variety of places. Even if the living together is plutonic, it still gives the apperance of evil and should simply be avoided.
Strife and contention in a home can be caused by many issues but it should not be present at all in a home. Marriage and a family are held together with love. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 WEB 4) "Love is patient and is kind; love doesn't envy. Love doesn't brag, is not proud, 5) doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; 6) doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7) bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." Bearing all things and enduring all things probably address having peace far more than anything else. Colossians 3:12-14 WEB says "12)Put on therefore, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; 13)bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. 14)Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection." (see also James 3:17, 18 WEB. Forgiveness is something easy to understand but hard to actually do. But it remains an important part of being a Christian Believer and one that needs to be practiced where spiritual growth in Jesus is expected to continue.
If all members of a home exhibit the behaviors we've discussed here, especially forgiveness, there would be no reason to have strife or contention. In fact, one would be hard pressed to find a place in the Bible that teaches what to do in constant strife in a home because it simply should not be there. Is this the real problem that is present? If so then praying for peace in the home isn't going to work because God expects you to have peace in there now, despite what it is like now. Self evaluation of one's own actions is in order here. Is your "home" really following God's word?
Please join us in praying for guidance and strength as we continue to make our home a true Christian home ministering to each other and strangers in as much as it depends on us, regardless of the situation at hand.
"Father, in the name of Jesus, we pray for Khugowe and their home. So often we want to blame those around us, but we first ask that Khugowe examines himself first and seeks your face. Let them show forth love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness: gentleness and self control. Let their light of Jesus Christ shine so brightly that their home radiates your teachings. We ask for forgiveness where they have fallen short. We especially pray that if they have fallen into living with someone in a non-marriage sexual relationship that they repent of this and work toward fleeing from this temptation. Give them wisdom, guidance, and clarity on where to make changes, Father. We pray that they will have courage and strength to break bad habits and make hard decisions. In Jesus name we pray. Amen."
