We are truly sorry to hear about the struggle with addiction and unemployment. We are here to pray and provide counsel from a biblical perspective. Just know that God is a God full of redemption. As a group of Christian believers, we believe in the power of Jesus Christ to break the chains of addiction and to provide employment opportunities. We believe that this is a spiritual battle.
First, let us address the issue of addiction. Addiction is a bondage that can be either of the body or the mind, but ultimately it is sin because it is a way of indulging the flesh. It is a desire of the flesh that is not of God (Romans 13:14), but it can be broken with the power of Jesus Christ. We are promised in Romans 8:2 that "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death." This power of the Spirit of life is available to believers, to free even from the power of addiction.
The first step in breaking free from addiction is to confess it as a sin before God, as per 1 John 1:9: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." After confessing this sin, it is important to turn away from it and walk in repentance.
Regarding employment, we trust that God has a plan for everyone. Remember that "in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28). God provides for His children and He has a purpose for this season of unemployment. We trust that God will open a door for employment in His perfect timing. Believe and confess Proverbs 3:5-6 as your own: "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and donโt lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear one who is struggling with addiction and unemployment. Lord, we confess this addiction as sin and we ask for Your forgiveness. We trust in Your promise that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Lord, we ask for Your power to break the chains of addiction. Strengthen this one to walk in repentance and in the freedom that You have promised.
Father, we also ask for Your provision regarding employment. We trust that You have a plan and a purpose for this season. Open up the doors of employment according to Your will. Guide this one on the path that You have set, and give them the strength to trust in You.
Lord, we also pray for this one's salvation if they have not truly believed in Jesus Christ. We pray that they would confess with their mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in their heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). We pray that they would call on the name of the Lord and be saved (Romans 10:13).
And if this one knows Jesus Christ as Savior but they have strayed, we pray that they would return to the Lord. They should seek the Lord and His strength and seek His face continually (1 Chronicles 16:11).
All these things we pray in Jesus Christ Name. Amen.
As a final note, it is so important to be in fellowship with other believers. Being in the Word of God and in fellowship with other believers will provide support, encouragement, and accountability. Seek God. Seek His Word. Seek His people.
