We are deeply moved by your concern for your son and his struggle with alcohol. Let us come together in prayer and seek God's will for his life.
Firstly, we want to remind you of God's promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14 (WEB), "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." This promise is not just for a nation, but for individuals as well. We encourage your son to turn to God, seeking His face and His strength.
We also want to address that true transformation comes from the power of the Holy Spirit working within us. It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to God and His transformative power. As it is written in Acts 4:12 (WEB), "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved." If your son has not yet committed his life to Jesus Christ, we encourage him to do so, for it is in Him that we find the strength to overcome our struggles.
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today, lifting up our brother in Christ to You. Lord, You know his struggles and his heart. We ask that You would strengthen him in his weakness, give him the power to resist temptation, and help him to live a life that honors You and his wife. Lord, we rebuke the spirit of addiction in his life, for it is written in Galatians 5:1 (WEB), "Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage." Help him to stand firm in the liberty that Christ has given him.
We also pray for his marriage, Lord. Help him to be the husband that You have called him to be, loving his wife as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25). We ask that You would heal any wounds that his actions may have caused and help them to build a strong, godly marriage together.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Lastly, we encourage you to continue to support your son and his wife, not enabling his behavior, but loving him unconditionally and pointing him to Christ. Remind him of the consequences of his actions, but also remind him of God's unfailing love and forgiveness. As it is written in Romans 8:38-39 (WEB), "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
