We are truly sorry to hear about the struggles you're facing with your son. We are here to pray and provide counsel from a biblical perspective for you and Swasunaria.
Firstly, we want to remind you that God cares deeply for your son and your family. He is a loving Father who wants the best for His children. It's important to remember that nothing can separate us from His love. Even if your son or anyone in the family has strayed, God for gave us the ultimate gift for salvation in His son Jesus. Paul tells us in Romans 8:38-39 WEB "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Besides His great love, forgiveness and redemption is also found in 1 John 1:9 WEB "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
We also praise God for the first step in helping your son that you have already taken. That is instructing him to talk to God about what is bothering him and telling him nothing is too big for God. Therefore, James 5:16 WEB tells us "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective." To that end, let's pray that he will not be ashamed to talk to you and God about these issues.
When an issue such as smoking and rebellious behavior is present, it is wise to seek biblical principles on curbing addictions and resisting temptations. To that end, we offer 1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." There is a way out of this behavior.
Swasunaria, it is important to remember to submit the authority in the house to God through Christ as the jealous husbandman of the family as a single parent.
We encourage you to continue guiding your son in the ways of righteous living and reminding him that his body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and we should glorify God in our bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:20 says, "For you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." It is also equally important to remember to submit his authority to God through Christ as the jealous husbandman of the family .
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up Swasunaria and her family, especially her teenage son. We pray that You would intervene in his life and break the chains of smoking. We as sinners know it is only through the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ for salvation from these sins. Reveal to him the root of his troubles that you may be able to heal him. Lord, we ask that You would soften his heart and open the lines of communication between him and his family. Give Swasunaria the wisdom and strength to guide her son in the path of righteousness and double discernment to separate rebellion from normal growing up. Help her to enforce the rules of the household without conflict and without wavering. Help the whole family to be denominal in their worship and to expand their faith to become true New Testament Christians.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen and Amen.
