Let us first acknowledge the power of prayer and the authority we have in Jesus' name to bring this situation before God. It's important to remember that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to God, and it is in His name that we can find salvation and guidance. As scripture tells us, "For 'whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.'" Romans 10:13 WEB.
We understand your concern for your grandson Damien and the significant decision he is considering. It's clear that you believe this choice may not be aligned with God's will for his life, and it's important to trust your instincts as a God-fearing believer and loving grandparent. As we are told in Proverbs 22:6 WEB, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today in the name of Jesus, lifting up Damien to You. Lord, we know that You have a perfect plan and purpose for his life, and we ask that You reveal this to him in a way that he can understand and accept.
Father, we pray that You will guide Damien's steps and give him wisdom beyond his years. Help him to see that the reasons he has for wanting to enlist may not be the right ones, and give him discernment to make a decision that aligns with Your will. As it is written in your word, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." James 1:5 WEB.
Lord, we also pray for his recruiter and friends who may be influencing his decision. We ask that You will soften their hearts and help them to see that Damien needs to make this decision based on Your will, not theirs. We pray for our sister in Christ who is feeling afraid and worried for her grandson. We pray that You will give her strength and understanding to speak truth in love to Damien without fear, but with courage.
Father, we ask that You will protect Damien from making hasty decisions that could have long-term consequences. Help him to see the importance of counting the cost and considering all factors before committing to something as significant as military service. We pray that You will shield him from people manipulating him and that you will give him a heart that desires to serve you first. We pray that you will soften his hardened heart so he can listen to your direction. We pray that you will open his eyes and ears to your will even if he is resistant at first.
We also pray for his maturity, Father. We ask that You will help him to grow in wisdom, in character, and in his relationship with You. Help him to see the value of education and the importance of pursuing the goals You have placed in his heart.
Finally, Lord, we pray that Damien will come to know Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior if he doesn't already. We pray that he will come to realize that true purpose and fulfillment can only be found in a right relationship with You.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
