We join you, Osphys, in lifting up your father Preston Jones and his cellmate Charlie before the throne of grace. We commend your faith and love. The fact that all of this is the result of a potential wrongful conviction instead of a sin causes us to pause but we must continue on.
First, we remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:36 (WEB), "I was in prison and you came to me." As we visit them in prayer, we visit Christ himself.
We pray for your father's situation. We acknowledge that God is sovereign and that He allows circumstances to pass in our lives for His ultimate purpose. Consider Joseph, wrongfully imprisoned from Genesis 40, yet allowed to suffer for his ultimate good and true justice. We pray for real justice in this lifetime. If earthly justice is not to be served there is always the ultimate justice of our supreme God. We pray for your father to be surrounded by the peace that surpasses all understanding. We pray for strength even in the midst of his trials, getting to know Jesus better. We ask he be kept safe from harm and bullying. We pray for God's intervention with the lawyer and the case. May righteousness prevail.
As mentioned in Hebrews 13:5 (WEB), "...Be content with such things as you have. For he has said, 'I will in no way leave you nor will I in any way forsake you.'" We pray that Preston has the strength to be content in the horrific situation and that he knows the next of God's presence.
On the other hand, we pray for clarity and discernment for Preston to choose to be a light in the darkness if he is not already. In I Timothy 6:20-21 (WEB), we are instructed. "O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted with you, turning away from the empty chatter and oppositions of the knowledge which is falsely so-called, which some professed and erred concerning the faith. Grace be with you." We pray that Preston goes beyond just avoiding trouble and bullying to godly behavior. We pray that Preston is not just avoiding trouble but ministering to others in prison. We pray not just for his safety but for him reaching out to others. We pray for guarding the deposit entrusted to Preston - the Holy Spirit.
Regarding Charlie, we pray for healing in accordance with God's will. We remember Jesus' words in Matthew 11:28 (WEB), "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." We pray for comfort and rest for Charlie, and for his family to reach out and provide the support he needs. If someone is lonely, we know that they often need to reach out to others first too. We pray for Charlie to find further fellowship with other Christians in the situation.
We pray for the little ones, Preston's grandchildren longing for their grandfather. May they grow in the grace and knowledge of the love of Jesus, knowing that even in absence, their grandfather's legacy of faith can impact their lives. We pray that soon they will be able to know Preston at a deeper level.
You recognize the power of praying in Jesus' name. We pray that Preston keeps a strong faith in Jesus Christ and trust him. We pray that Preston recognizes that Jesus is the only way. Being in prison is a very hard test on faith. We pray that Preston realize that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God according to John 14:6 that says, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'"
Notice that the verse just before it actually says, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father..." in John 14: 12. Ministries have left prisons and organizations such as Prison Fellowship have definitely shown this. Companies such as CrossCom have been started before and after prison via ministry. We like to think that internal ministry is possible throughout prison. We appeal to Preston to keeping the faith and publicly share his faith endlessly.
In the name of Jesus Christ, which is the only method to pray, do we pray or any prayer is a waste. When we pray, stay in the faith at all times. Speak of Jesus instead of just praying to God. Everything should be in his name.
And finally, in Matthew 16:24 says: I will build my ecclesia and Psalm 42:4 ironically says, "These I will remember as I pour out my soul, How I used to go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God, With the voice of joy and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping a festival.." We pray that Preston sees also that he is a minister able to build a peaceable church within the trials of prison. Answer the call to ministry in honor of Jesus Christ.
But, in everything, as in Philippians 2:12 or Philippians 1:21 would say, "whatever happens, live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.", "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain."
Proverbs 3, 5-12: "Lord, do not hold back your mercy from me, Let Your love and Your Truth always protect me ..."
or
"Steadfast love from the Lord is What I seek; Their law is within My heart."
