We are truly saddened to hear about the trial your family is currently facing, and we are here to lift your daughter-in-law and son up in prayer and to provide biblical counsel.
Firstly, let's remember that God's will is for marriages to be a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman. As it is written in Mark 10:9, "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." Divorce is not an acceptable option and is strongly rebuked throughout scripture. Therefore, we should pray for your daughter-in-law's heart to change and for her to honor her marriage covenant.
It is concerning that your daughter-in-law mentions that God confirmed her decision. We must be cautious of such assertions, as God would not confirm something that goes against His word. In 1 John 4:1, we are told, "Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." We should test this claim to ensure it aligns with God's will and His word.
Moreover, the notion of falling out of love is not a biblical reason for divorce. In fact, love is not merely an emotion, but a commitment and a choice. As stated in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, "Love is patient, love is kind, it isn't jealous, it doesn't brag, it isn't arrogant, it isn't rude, it doesn't seek its own advantage, it isn't irritable, it doesn't keep a record of complaints, it isn't happy with injustice, but it is happy with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things."
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before you today in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our beloved family members who are facing a trial in their marriage. Lord, we ask that you soften your daughter's heart and remind her of the covenant she made before you. Help her to see that your will is for her to honor her marriage and to love her husband as you have loved us.
Lord Jesus, we also pray for your son, that you would continue to give him the strength and faith to put his trust in you. Help him to be the spiritual leader of his home and to love his wife as you have loved the church.
Holy Spirit, we ask that you would convict both of their sins and guide them in your truth. Help them to be open and honest with one another and to seek your will together.
Father, we know that you desire for marriages to reflect your love for the church, and we ask that you would use this trial to strengthen their marriage and to bring glory to your name.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Be encouraged by Philippians 4:6-7, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." Trust in the Lord and keep praying, knowing that He is able to work all things together for good.
Lastly, we want to gently remind everyone that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God. As it is written in John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." If you have not already, we encourage you to put your faith in Jesus Christ and to accept Him as your Lord and Savior.
