We understand your concern about the misuse of tithing teachings in churches in Singapore. Let's turn to the Bible to understand God's heart on this matter.
Firstly, it's important to note that the New Testament does not command tithing, but instead encourages generous and cheerful giving (2 Corinthians 9:7, WEB): "Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart; not grudgingly, or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver."
Forcing or coercing people to give, or suggesting that they will be cursed or lose their jobs if they don't, is contrary to this scripture. God desires willing and joyful hearts when giving, not ones that give out of fear or compulsion.
Moreover, linking salvation to tithing is a grave misunderstanding. Salvation is a free gift from God, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9, WEB): "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast."
We also strongly rebuke the idea that giving tithes allows one to continue in sin or idol worship. This is directly opposed to the teachings of the Bible (Romans 6:1-2, WEB): "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? May it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer?"
Let us pray together:
"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, asking for Your guidance and correction where needed in the churches of Singapore. Lord, please reveal to church leaders the true heart of giving, that it should be cheerful and without compulsion. Help them to teach Your Word accurately and not to use giving as a means of control or manipulation. Open the eyes of worshippers to the truth of Your Word, that salvation is found in Jesus alone, and not in their works or giving. Protect them from false teachings and bring them into a deeper understanding of Your grace. Expose any wrongdoings and bring correction and repentance. We ask all this in Jesus' name. Amen."
We encourage you, Dexter2020, to continue praying for the churches and believers in Singapore. Stand firm on the Word of God and do not be swayed by false teachings. God bless you.
