We are saddened to hear about the struggles of this elderly woman, and we trust in the power of prayer to bring comfort and healing. We must first address the fact that the request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, Jesus, or Christ or an abbreviation such as IJN (In Jesus Name). It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. The Bible tells us, For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB) And in as far as there being salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, we must acknowledge our Savior. Therefore, we pray in accordance with God's will and in the mighty name of Jesus.
Let us pray for her physical health, that God would grant her healing and strength. Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal to them abundance of peace and truth. (Jeremiah 33:6 WEB) We pray for her hearing, her vision, her mobility, and her continence, that God would restore her body and give her relief from her ailments.
We also pray for her emotional and spiritual well-being. It is understandable that she may feel frustrated and even angry with the changes and limitations that come with aging, but we must remember that our value is not diminished by our physical limitations. For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7 WEB)
However, we must also address the sinful behavior mentioned. Bad mouthing people is akin to slander which is forbidden. We are to speak only what is true and edifying. Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. (Ephesians 4:29 WEB) We need to rebuke a spirit of anger and bitterness, praying that she would instead be filled with love, joy, and peace.
Her suicidal thoughts are a serious concern, and we must address this as sin. While we understand her frustrations, we must remember that our lives are precious to God and that He has a purpose for each one of us, no matter our age or physical condition. Moreover, you shall not... murder. (Exodus 20:13 WEB) Suicidal thoughts are to murder oneself. We pray that she would find hope and purpose in Christ, and that she would be surrounded by love and support from her family and community.
Finally, we pray for her family, that God would give them wisdom, patience, and love as they care for their mother. Let us put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body, and be thankful. (Colossians 3:14-15 WEB)
Heavenly Father, we lift up this elderly woman to You, asking for Your healing touch on her body, her mind, and her spirit. Help her to find hope and purpose in You, and to feel Your love and presence in her life. Give her family wisdom and patience as they care for her, and help them to show her Your love. We rebuke any spirit of anger, bitterness, or hopelessness, and we claim Your promises of healing, peace, and love. We ask all of these things in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
