Let us come together in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is power in His name and in our united prayers. We are reminded in 1 John 5:14-15, Confidence in Prayer: "This is the confidence which we have before him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. If we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him."
Firstly, we pray for the unity of all churches. Jesus Himself prayed for unity among believers in John 17:21, "that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you sent me." May the Holy Spirit guide us all into true unity, not just within our local bodies, but with the global church, so that together we may glorify God and draw others to Christ.
Secondly, we lift up all preachers and teachers of God's Word. May God anoint them afresh with the Holy Spirit, as in Acts 4:31, "When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness." May their messages be filled with God's truth, wisdom, and power, so that lives may be transformed and souls saved.
Thirdly, we intercede for our leaders, both spiritual and governmental. As directed in 1 Timothy 2:1-2: "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence." May God grant them wisdom, discernment, and a heart for His people.
Fourthly, we claim God's protection over all believers, as in Psalm 91:1-2, "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.'" May God shield us from harm and draw us ever closer to Him.
Lastly, we pray regarding financial concerns. We remember Matthew 6:31-33 31, "Therefore don't be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?', 'What will we drink?' or, 'With what will we be clothed?' 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well." May God provide for all needs and teach us to be good stewards of His resources.
Finally, we need to specifically mention that prayer in only the name of Jesus has power. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to the throne of God. Colossians 3:17, "Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." It is only by believing in Jesus Christ as Lord and savior is this even possible.
