In October 2023, the government of the Islamic sultanate of Brunei announced a radical change in education policy to be implemented from Nov. 1. All 2nd to 5th grade students, including Christian children, are required to attend one hour per day of Islamic instruction. This includes practicing Islamic prayers and studying the Quran. This decree from the sultan applies to public and private schools. Front-line workers ask for prayer that all Christian children in Brunei will be properly discipled at home and at church so that they will be grounded in God’s Word.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up Taeweth's prayer request regarding the situation in Brunei. We pray for the Christian children in Brunei who are facing the requirement to attend Islamic instruction in schools. Lord, we ask for Your divine protection and guidance over these children.

Your Word reminds us in Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." We pray that these Christian children will be properly discipled at home and in their churches, that they may be firmly rooted in Your Word. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and grant them wisdom and discernment to navigate this challenging situation.

We also pray for their parents and guardians, that You would grant them wisdom and courage to teach and guide their children in the ways of the Lord. May they be filled with Your Spirit and equipped to instill a deep love for You and Your Word in the hearts of their children.

Lord, we lift up the frontline workers in Brunei who are advocating for the rights and spiritual well-being of these children. Grant them favor, protection, and divine wisdom as they navigate this challenging environment. May their efforts bear fruit and bring about positive change for the Christian community in Brunei.

We also pray for the overall situation of Christian persecution in Brunei. We ask for Your intervention, Lord, that the hearts of the leaders and authorities may be softened towards the Christian community. May Your light shine brightly in the midst of darkness, and may Your truth prevail.

We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayers and for Your faithfulness. We trust in Your sovereignty and believe that You are able to work all things together for the good of those who love You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
